ST. PETERSBURG As she arrived to speak at the regions first ever resilience leadership summit, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor came upon a hotel parking lot packed with cars.
Hundreds of people from local governments, universities and scientific consulting firms had shown up Tuesday. Valets at the Hilton in Carillon Park double-parked vehicles, choking the entry.
The scene summarized the day: a symbol both of the growing interest in climate change in Tampa Bay and the enormous hurdles officials face as they aim to curb emissions (from cars, for instance) contributing to rising seas.
**SNIP**
Among the first speakers was Julia Nesheiwat, Floridas new chief resilience officer, who made news when she explicitly acknowledged climate change at another workshop in Tampa last year. In Florida, where Im not a scientist was a common refrain of top Republicans over the past decade, her blunt assessment signaled a major policy shift.
Its music to my ears to hear, now more than ever, that we are really beyond that point of If there is a problem to, What are we really doing about it? Nesheiwat said Tuesday.

Hilarious. Hey Tampa, time to shut down the tourist industry and confiscate that loot from somewhere else. Maybe it's also time to stop paying a chief resilience officer. Could save a few bucks right there.
Climate change is dying. These people are talking it to death.
Leftist Regressives: Boring, tired, ignorant oxygen thieves who get meaningless, do-nothing, taxpayer-funded jobs such as “Chief Resilience Officer.”

Raise taxes and redistribute wealth?
Do the knotheads who attend these idiotic “climate change” conferences buy carbon offsets for all the CO2 they generate from their incessant talking?
Just another chicken little program to separate money from taxpayers to fund the liberal elite.
I think they want you to buy horses, give up cars, and ride stage coaches to nearby towns.
I’m sure Tampa has much more pressing issues than how to milk the locals and the tourons for changes in the seasons.
who da f funds this nonsense...
Maybe a field trip to the beach to see the rising seas should be first on the agenda?!
That title alone should be sufficient proof that we are living in the end times...
All attendees at this enclave-of-the-ignorant should have marched into the sea. That would definitely helped the planet.
Well Zachary and Langston I have news for you. Global Warming is a crock of Shite.
Maybe the “climate scientist” are causing most of the global warming flying all over the place to have yet another “summit”
Do they rent limos to get around?
Tampa Bay hasn’t changed in the 40 years I’ve been coming to it and since I moved here in 2003, the only things the changed were 1)The skyline of Tampa and St. Pete. 2)Housing developments and 3)Idiots in the mayor office (Jane Castor, you aren’t no Bob Buckhorn). The bay never changed, nor the the rest of the coastline of Florida.
So hold your Emotional Meltdown Event online, morons.
How long before we have some kind of Jonestown-type climate change mass suicide to save the planet event
A chief resilience officer? Are there assistant resilience officers? deputy resilience officers?
Beam me up Scotty, there's no intelligent life down here. /s
