Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, are stepping back from their roles as senior members of the British royal family and plan to work towards becoming "financially independent," the couple announced on Instagram on Wednesday.

"After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year" they wrote, explaining that they hope to "carve out a progressive new role within this institution." "We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen," they said.

Statement says they are “working towards financial independence” which I interpret as the Queen told them they had some period of time with an allowance and then they are on their own.

Silvercatseye, Warrington, United Kingdom, This is Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson all over again. Meghan will eventually turn him into an emasculated, ineffectual and isolated nonentity. He's supposed to be the star, not her, but he's letting her overwhelm him and map out his future life. He thinks it's a new beginning, but really it's an ending, and maybe not a good one.
