Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, are stepping back from their roles as senior members of the British royal family and plan to work towards becoming "financially independent," the couple announced on Instagram on Wednesday.

"After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year" they wrote, explaining that they hope to "carve out a progressive new role within this institution." "We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen," they said.

We can certainly judge them on the last couple of years—including the way they apparently blindsided the Queen with this pronouncement.

the issue that stands out with me is the couple out to ‘make a lot of money’ continues their harping at the world to live a life of austerity and sacrifice. One is not upholding the benefits of ‘freedom’ if one is badgering others into poverty and slavery to the state.
And in the midst of the worst knife and acid attack on the English in history, it should surprise noone that the Brits would balk at ‘progressive’ Sparkles, as England is well-versed in the dangers not only of unbridled ‘diversity’ but of the Marxist, Stalinist and Communist ideals aimed at destroying Western Civilization specifically, ideals that Megan insists on championing. The Brits have been there, done that at great cost, with no desire for a replay.

The duties of the RF swirl around maintaining alliances with the Commonwealth and setting an example of settled, polite Christian civilization both as royals, and, as defacto heads of the Angelican Church. The RF is the gluepot which is why they travel to so many different countries and play host to so many cooperative events. No royal duty is frivolous or a waste of time or money. Every one is part of the hard work of keeping alliances together and Christian values alive.

We don't know if they "blindsided the Queen" or not. The notoriously-lurid press in London likes to use trigger words like "blindsided" just as our own enemedia has used that word slamming President Trump in the past few days.

I have a hunch that the Queen has been aware of the situation for quite a while....but I don't know for sure, and neither does anyone else.

I wouldn’t worry much about her running for any American office if the taxman is correct:

I'm absolutely certain that the multitude of British Crown family members will be able to continue to hold Western Civilization together, maintain Commonwealth alliances and keep Christian values alive even though Meghan, Harry and Archie are happily pursuing their challenges and goals elsewhere.

if she remains a dual citizen she gets taxed twice - once under British tax law and again under American ex-pat tax law. This would include comped flights, dinners, security, car service, housing, her share of harry's allowance and investments, etc, down to loans of tiaras and jewelry for public appearances.

Congress allowed Zero to set a precedent that only the mother's citizenship was a qualifier for ‘natural born’. So Archie might squeeze in under the ropes there. But even so, being a royal grandchild, he (and both parents - Meghan not wanting to give up the Sussex title, in fact, copywriting it and so giving Archie a defacto title) would run head-first into the Article 1, Sec 9 roadblock:
“”no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under [the United States], shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”
