A recent survey of registered dietitians named the low-carbohydrate keto diet yet again as the most popular diet in the United States. Powering this diet is fat, and loads of it all the way up to a hefty 90 percent of ones daily calories.
Its fans (and marketers) feed social media with before and after photos, crediting the diet for life-altering weight loss or other effects. They swirl butter into their coffee, load up on cheese, and eat lonely burgers without its bestie, the bun. Staples like whole grains, legumes, fruit and starchy vegetables are being largely pushed off the plate as devotees strive for ketosis when the body begins to burn fat instead of glucose as its primary energy source.
America is in a state of carbophobia, said Whitney Linsenmeyer, a spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
The diet is hailed for dropping pounds, burning more calories, reducing hunger, managing diabetes, treating drug resistant epilepsy, improving blood pressure, and cholesterol, as well as triglycerides, the major storage form of fat in the body. People have reported improved concentration, too. We see pretty dramatic benefits, said Dr. William Yancy, director of the Duke Diet and Fitness Center.

Eat a little, expend alot, lose BF, gain muscle. Diet? Uh huh.
I would look at the rest of the ingredients in the no bean chili, what are they using as a thickener? Are they adding sugar into the tomato base?
The last 24 hours have been a whoosh day for me, frequent need to pee and very full bladder every time. I don’t weigh myself every day, but I do expect to see weight loss in the next day or so.
I’m sure there are ingredients in the no-bean chili that aren’t in line with keto which is why I don’t have it very often or any canned food for that matter.
Now I understand “whoosh days”. :) I get them too.
Fat’s not the enemy.
Sugar is the enemy.
You can make an excellent low carb breakfast pizza simply by replacing the bread with 2 or 3 slightly mixed eggs, though you'll have to eat this pizza with a fork. First cook the meat toppings in a pan and set aside. Pre-heat the cheese and other pizza ingredients in a microwave bowl to avoid overcooking the eggs. It's surprising no pizza chain has tried offering this before.
LOL!
*** “But I miss pizza, rice, noodles, etc” ***
I must be weird, the only thing I Crave is “Linguine w Clam Sauce” and I haven’t eaten that for 30 plus years.
I do have a local Chef/fishing buddy that said he would make it just as good as I remember it (it is actually a very simple dish) but he is always trying to cook me something that isn’t KETO because he cooks SAD at his Restaurant and his business is good (used to eat there all the time), He thinks KETO is a FAD and stupid and I almost agree with him ... if it says “KETO” or “KETO Friendly” etc etc it is probably some bogus product trying to cash in.
LCHF or just Low Carb or Carnivore will be next
So I will just continue to eat Real Food that doesn’t have an ingredients list, no sugar, no honey, no seed oils, no grains, stay under 50 carbs per day and let other people label it or me if it makes them feel better. (win win)
I know and am living proof that what I am doing is the proper human diet ... I am 50lbs less beer gut, no more meds with excellent blood sugar, BP and feel better than I have in 10-15 years and I am no spring chicken at 64 and the BIG thing that my friends cannot understand ... I never go Hungry. I have 2 additional eating rules
#1 I Eat when I am Hungry and I eat as much as I want
#2 I ONLY eat when I am Hungry, I don’t eat by a clock or schedule, even if that means I don’t eat for days ... see rule #1
Cocaine is a helluva drug. I had a friend go from a coke induced cardiac arrest, at least he died doing what he loved.
>>Keto is a highly effective short-term protocol for weight loss/fat loss. Better to do it by focusing on getting adequate protein, & to go easy on added fat. i.e. dont dump butter in your coffee. Get your fats primarily from whole-food sources. Dont freak out about gluconeogenesis by skimping on protein. Protein is key. Beware of the grifters doling out keto advice... Much of it is bad.<<
Funny, I’ve been on a meat and fat only diet now for about 4 years. All it’s done is make me healthier and leaner.
.....except for one episode of hand and wrist pain. I went to a doc. I told him about my diet. He told me that too much protein is bad for the kidneys. That’s because I had a BUN one point above range. He couldn’t diagnose my hand/wrist pain. I went home and a couple of weeks later increased my fat to protein intake ratio. That cured my pain. Subsequently I figured out that I had a mild form of the bends, with too much nitrogen in my blood. It concentrates in joints.
Also from experience, gluconeogenesis is definitely a problem. Animal fat is the solution.
Grifter out.
I am not a wake up and eat breakfast type person. Used to be several hours after waking before I would get around to eating. There are many adult “lunchables” out there these days, basically meat and cheese slices with either crackers or olives or nuts to accompany them and they were my go-to portable meal. Easy to carry and just enough food to keep me going, but not overstuffed, or still wanting to eat everything I set eyes on.
*** “I am fairly certain seed oils are the source for most of our dietary induced inflammation and endothelial damage” ***
I agree 100% https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2UnOryQiIY&t=1357s
When I started this lifestyle I was in rough shape and had to get Serious and I went ALL IN...
Very First thing into the trash was ALL “Vegetable” Oils next was syrups, jams, jellies, honey, beans, lentils, pasta etc. Meals in a box, cans or jars. All Grains and their flours including Corn Starch. All canned beans, corn and peas etc
I was brutal ... basically the only canned food I have now is Fish (Salmon and Sardines), Asparagus, Beef, Ham, Olives and Mushrooms.
My food today is refrigerated, fresh, frozen or dried ... I eat hardly anything with an Ingredient List longer than 3 Ingedients.
Seemed impossible the first couple of days but now a year later it is so normal (and I am no longer on deaths doorstep)
My friends were planning my Wake and now are asking what should/can they do? Some think it is too hard so they say the hell with it, they will still eat their morning BOB and Burger and Fries for Lunch and Spaghetti Supper w desserts and Snacks all day and at +300lbs they are ready to check out. They don’t believe me when I say it is So Easy (after the 1st week or so)
After eating mostly only foods that don’t have much of an ingredient list I only have 3 more rules
#1 If I am Hungry I eat (I Never Go Hungry)
#2 I don’t eat if I am not hungry (even if that is for days) and I especially don’t eat on any scheduled time ie if I happen to get hungry at 2:00 PM I just go eat, I don’t eat at Noon because I think I might be hungry at 2:00 and I don’t wait until 6:00 either ... I promised myself “I will Not Go Hungry” and I don’t
#3 Stay under 50 carbs per day (most of the time I’m under 30 carbs but sometimes I get a hankering for Grilled Onions with my Steak and I’ve been known to eat a couple of them along with a lb of Brussels Sprouts and a 6 pack of Michelob Ultra (2.6 carbs each)and that will get you to 50 carbs pretty quick
PS This way of living makes you a Cheap Date ... a 6 pack of Ultra and I am 2 beers past needing a designated Driver (and I weigh 215lbs and a very experienced Beer Drinker)
PS PS Waiting for the “Calories In, Calories Out” guy to show up ... I don’t Count Calories ... at all ... my body lets me know what I need and when and “THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN ESSENTIAL CARBOHYDRATE”
You have a profound misunderstanding of the HFMPLC [High Fat Medium Protein Low Carbohydrate] way of eating [NOT a diet].
You "Eat The Fat" because fat suppresses the hunger reaction. When you eat carbohydrates, your blood sugar levels do a "sine wave" thing.
The sine-wave thing explains the empty feeling/hunger pangs after not eating for long enough. Then, it's time to binge on carbs again.
Eating fat flat-lines the blood sugar levels. No spikes.
You eat medium protein because eating too much protein will cause your body to store the excess as fat, very similar to carb ingestion.
The "burn more calories than you consume" dogma is not helpful to more than a handful of people in this age of accessible food everywhere.

Have you tried this?

I haven’t done the Pizza yet but Ham and Cheese Sandwich is good as is it just as a bread and butter sub with soups and stews (I’m a big Stew guy, I always have a Stew ready)
Yes, PUFAs are said to cause inflammation. [Canola oil, soybean oil, cottonseed oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, peanut oil, and corn oil, are all classified as polyunsaturated fatty acids].
Fudge! I just saw peanut oil in there! Drat!

On the road I carry a Large Avocado, plastic knife and spoon and I always have Real Salt with me (I have turned into a Salt Snob, but it is so good!)
Some Jerky or Dried Sausage and a handful of almonds or walnuts or pecans, If I get Hungry... I have a meal ... or
If I want to pig out there is always Dirty Keto aka Taco Bell Roasted Chicken Power Bowl tell them to omit the beans, rice and sauce ... add extra guac (I can eat 2 of these)
*** “ Potassium is the big one! Most Americans dont get nearly enough Potassium in their diet “ ***
I have been putting Cream of Tartar in my water ... it is 100% Potassium Bitartate ... don’t know if it helps but it makes my water taste lemony and it is cheap
