A recent survey of registered dietitians named the low-carbohydrate keto diet yet again as the most popular diet in the United States. Powering this diet is fat, and loads of it all the way up to a hefty 90 percent of ones daily calories.
Its fans (and marketers) feed social media with before and after photos, crediting the diet for life-altering weight loss or other effects. They swirl butter into their coffee, load up on cheese, and eat lonely burgers without its bestie, the bun. Staples like whole grains, legumes, fruit and starchy vegetables are being largely pushed off the plate as devotees strive for ketosis when the body begins to burn fat instead of glucose as its primary energy source.
America is in a state of carbophobia, said Whitney Linsenmeyer, a spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
The diet is hailed for dropping pounds, burning more calories, reducing hunger, managing diabetes, treating drug resistant epilepsy, improving blood pressure, and cholesterol, as well as triglycerides, the major storage form of fat in the body. People have reported improved concentration, too. We see pretty dramatic benefits, said Dr. William Yancy, director of the Duke Diet and Fitness Center.

But I do feel sorry for Dawn (the author), she's probably now getting death threats for posting this, as the Left understands this diet means much more meat eating than they're will to permit for us.
There are essential Fatty Acids and Proteins, that you can only get from your diet.
There is no such thing as an essential Carbohydrate, your body can produce them if need be.

I burn 10,000 calories per month at Orange Theory. I eat a balanced, reasonable Italian diet. I drink tons of wine and Negroni’s.

My Cardiologist of the last 20+ years at Cedars Sinai says it is incredibly hard on your heart.
I attended a cardiology symposium two years ago.
One speaker extolled the vegan lifestyle and two presenters later a pro keto speaker said the opposite.
I suspect the truth is somewhere in between.
(The keto guy looked happier than the vegan lady, FWIW)
The only way to avoid the aches and pains of aging is to endure the aches and pains of vigorous exercise.

Googling the issue shows that Keto is known to be hard on heart.do what you wish.
I used Keto and lost weight relatively fast and easy. given what my doctor said and what I’m seeing in black and white....I’m going with what I’m reading.

So is being 100 lbs overweight. Many people here have spent decades working on their weight, doing what they were told (and often needless wrecking their knees), but nothing worked for them...until Keto.
As to your cardiologist, he could be right, he could be wrong...there are no long-term studies either way, since, I guess, it’s still considered a ‘fad’ by the medical community (although that is changing).
Think of it like the 2016 election. On the one hand, you had a flaming Leftist who we all understood where she’d take the country (similar to being morbidly obese), on the other had you had an unknown making claims that he’d be greatest president in history (somewhat similar to people who’ve had success on Keto)...so which choice is better. In that case, the unknown was, much, much, better. For this, time will tell...
Diets are like budgets sort of. Dont eat more than your body needs or foods that add a lot of empty calories. Eat a balanced diet, get some exercise and dont overdo either. I like carbs in my diet but they dont rule it.
I went on a 30 day diet. The food was so good I finished it in a week!

And he's wrong. Practicing doctors typically only repeat the guidelines they're given about nutrition. They aren't personally familiar with the underlying science. That science was distorted in the past and is now slowly being corrected.
Did you ask what exactly is heart harmful?
