When historians study 2019, they will surely take note that this was the Year of the Florida Man.
First, in March, came the 'Florida Man Challenge,' a social media fad involving Googling your birthday and the term 'Florida Man' to see what bizarre news item popped up. A month later came the Florida Man backlash, in which commentators debated whether it was ethical to laugh about Florida Man headlines because so many involve people who are homeless or mentally ill.

People should know that the reason for the proliferation of 'Florida Man' stories is a direct result of FL's open government law titled the Sunshine Act. Every other state protects the privacy of criminals, but Florida makes all crime reports immediately available to the public.
This makes it very easy for the media to get stories out of Florida and freely report them without the risk of being sued, all the other states have just as much crazy going on but it's simply kept secret.

There is a freeper from Florida ( I won’t reveal his handle) who will take great offense to these references. I made a flippant Florida man type remark and this guy invited me down to Florida so he could beat the tar out of me. So watch it.

Florida "sunshine" laws are definitely unique. You can even look up the salary of every state employee, including teachers!
We moved from CA to FL in 2005, and have never regretted it.
