The New York Giants fired coach Pat Shurmur on Monday after two seasons on the job, but the team is keeping general manager Dave Gettleman. Already did that, so he won’t get another one until all the other teams have had one, since they are rotating the SB’s all around the league............

Dak was inconsistent, racking up 400+ yards against some really bad teams but losing on the road to teams with inferior talent, over and over. It's not an accident they are 8-8 and Dak is part of that. And he's asking to be the highest paid QB in history right after missing the playoffs in a team when 9-7 wins the division.

My bet: He's not going to be a free agent but he's not getting a contract either, yet. Instead he played himself into a one-year franchise tag so Cowboys can see how he does with a new regime before committing to him.

A coach basically has four years with a franchise to win a Super Bowl. If it hasn’t happened by then, it will never happen with them.

Giants ...simply didn’t think any of those available QBs were a good fit.
And therein lies the problem!
I'd take any of these 3 QBs from the 2018 draft: - Sam Darnold - Josh Allen - Lamar Jackson over Barkley.
What the hell's not to like???

Wrong comparison. Since you’re looking at this in hindsight, the real question should be: Would you rather have one of those 3 QBs, or Daniel Jones? If the Giants didn’t like any of those QBs in 2018, they should have traded down in the draft instead of using their top pick on a player who is very talented but will have no impact in the long run.

Dallas outscored their opponents by 100 points this season but finished just 8-8. That’s an interesting dichotomy, for sure.

Can't honestly say much about "Danny Dimes," too early.
I think the larger point is - how often do you get the #2 draft pick - AND needing a QB - get to pick from a pool of really good college QBs?
Opportunity missed.

Wow, it’s been many many years, since I’ve heard reference to the “New York football Giants”, to distinguish them from baseball’s New York Giants.

Where do the years go? It’s hard to believe that the Giants and Dodgers moved West over 60 years ago.

The Giants management simply didn’t think any of those QBs were a good fit for this organization. You don’t try to jam a square peg into a round role, so I can’t blame them for passing on any of them.

There were four QBs among the top ten picks in the 2018 draft. Baker Mayfield went #1 and had hardly been spectacular. Josh Rosen was picked by Arizona at #10 and was traded away after one season. There were no clear franchise-type QBs available in that draft despite the abundance of QB talent.

And Danny Dimes IS because he's different how? If the Giants' brain trust was looking for someone to lead the NFL in fumbles, they got their man.

I grew up in the NYC area 50s and 60s and although I haven't lived there since 1964, I still root for the Giants and hate root against the Dodgers.
Willie, Mickey and the Duke ... it was a great time for a kid to be a baseball fan.
