House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is leaving open the possibility of withholding articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump until she is assured a fair trial in the Senate.

“So far we haven’t seen anything that looks fair to us,” Pelosi said Wednesday after her caucus voted to impeach the president. She was referring to what Democratic leadership plans on doing after the vote.

I would imagine that they have until the end of the session. Not sure if that is this January or next. There are Congresses, and there are sessions. I know everything pending at the end of a Congress expires and has to be re-done.

It’s amusing that Nance is interested in fairness now.

Nancy is evil, corrupt and crooked. But she is not stupid. Why should she send those articles to the Senate? If the Senate even accepts them, they certainly won’t vote to convict.

Lawyerly question: If the charges of Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress can be proven to be not legally part of the “high crimes and misdemeanors” as described by the constitution, can the executive branch appeal to the judicial branch to throw out the ruling by the house?

It’s my understanding they can proceed anyway...what she presents is already a matter of record.

A thing that pisses people off needs a short moniker so they can use it to make a point. So, I submit:

When the fruitcake lady talks “fair”, just read that as “a sure victory”. Send it over, moron. Just like a loser millenial son, I’m betting it won’t even get out of the house.

Yeah, but impeachment is not an end to itself.
It’s purpose is to bring the impeached to trial.

Is there no deadline by which the Senate must receive the package?

I don't think the founding fathers every imagined that the house would do something so ridiculous as to vote for impeachment but then refuse or delay sending it to the Senate.

This is just going to look like more partisan games on the part of the Democrats. It's likely to inflame their own base that won't understand the delay. It totally destroys the argument that impeaching Trump was urgent.

I’d think that, like all legislation, it would expire with the end of this “congress” and the beginning of the next. They are running a fools errand to think they can wait this out until they think they’ll get a senate majority in 2021. The impeachment act will have expired.

She didn’t want to let Trump make his speech THIS year. It got postponed a couple of weeks.

She’s going to soil herself next year.
