DEAD MEN'S SECRETS --- Were ancient times really primitive?

EGYPT 2000 BC: Drills were used that turned 500X faster than today's power drills and bored into granite rock with ease.

Dentists worked with cement fillings, dental bridges, and inserted artificial teeth.

Doctors performed pregnancy tests, determined the sex of an unborn child, fed nourishment through tubes, fitted artificial legs and hands; and used anesthetic and sophisticated instruments to perform bone and brain surgery?

Mysterious moving walls, automatically flashing lights and lamps that shone century after century, non-stop?

A detailed map of Antarctica dating back thousands of years, without ice!

A 400 ft pyramid was found on the seabed.

44 skeletons were excavated in Pakistan dating to about 2000BC and found to be radioactive!

There are 25 places around the world which show hard evidence that atomic warfare was used thousands of years ago.

In Peru, 4-dimensional art with several faces that disappear or change into other figures, according to your position or that of the sun.

Dinosaurs and people coexisted.

There are approximately 600 legends worldwide that a world flood took place about 4,400 years ago.

....and hundreds more!

Your statement is proof of the truism.

God didn't bring the Flood because man was evil (or he would have done it again and again and again)

Consult Genesis 6:5-7

"5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.”"

God is patient, and administers justice in His own time.

Romans 9:22-24

"What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory, even us, whom He also called, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles."

You will have to explain that comment to me.

I don’t think anyone on this thread is arguing the validity of the 500x drill claim. You are the only one fixated on that.

The historical evidence is right there in front of you,

So, do you think a centralized world govt is a good idea?

I assume that all of the talking points have the same validity. If one point is so ridiculously flawed, wouldn't the others be suspect?

Thanks Windflier. Largely nonsense, but we need this to maintain our sense of whimsy. Or somethin'.

People can drill holes in rock with slow speed drills. Even Jade is worked with hand tools.

I am not saying man was not evil.

There are gradients of evil. The kind of evil exhibited pre-Flood is obviously different from that exhibited by modern man is my point.

Many Biblical scholars (Michael Heiser being the one who stands out) point back to Genesis 6 as the source of that particular evil.

BTW, there is more to the event--Babel--that just what is presented in the Hebrew Bible. There are many ancient literary/mythic sources from which to triangulate this story. The Sumerian/Mesopotamian sources shed light on this event--albeit from an entirely different POV.

What goes up must come down. That’s why democrats were invented and sent to public schools.

There is a difference in the drill marks left by a low speed and a high speed drill going through a given material - If that isn’t enough ... many have tried to duplicate the results with both methods of ancient drill holes and the high speed won in the cases claimed.

If you can’t figure the truism out then that’s your problem.

Why, of course we are supposed to take what uneducated people say as fact.

It appear you don’t even take educated people. The claim about Egyptian high speed drills was documented - sorry I do not have the time to do your work for you. And much of the work done in Egypt cannot be duplicated today - so says numerous sculptors, architects, and engineers.

I use drills quite often in my machine shop. Depending on the material and the bit, one cannot reliably tell the speed of the drill. Feed rate is also a factor which confuses RPM considerations.

Bow drill can turn rather fast.

No, I can't read your mind. Thanks for the deflection from the brotherly bonds of Free Republic members.

That's a logical fallacy. Just because the 500X drill point seems far-fetched to you does not diminish all other points made.

That said, I will agree that their is an emotional-association effect between claims such that it doesn't help the video producer's argument.

As an aside, there have been many archaeological curiosities (particularly in Egypt) which have caused people to wonder how certain rock material (stone slabs found in burial sites in particular) were cut with such precision.

I agree with you that such a curious finding should not cause an observer to jump to a conclusion (i.e., must have been a 500X drill).

If you can provide a link to such material, I would like to read it. Otherwise, you aren't participating in an intellectual discussion. You would be preaching.

I have encountered plenty examples of highly educated people speaking nonsense. This is especially true when said educated person is speaking of a topic well outside of his domain. For example, how well do you think Computer Science classes go when they are designed by a PhD in Home Economics? (Actual case from the Georgia school system.)

FINGERPRINTS OF THE GODS by Graham Hancock.

I've been watching Graham Hancock on YouTube for quite a while, but have yet to read his book on lost civilizations.

It's definitely on my reading list.

None of the other points are indicative of technology higher than our own. Fillings in teeth are impressive, and certainly prove that they were smart people who were able to solve real problems with excellent solutions. Most Native Americans died of abscessed teeth simply because they didn't fill cavities.

Don't get me wrong. I am fascinated by the ancient Egyptians and admire their accomplishments. Any claims that we are unequal to their technology are just silly, and discredit the field of archeology.
