P had never experience them. He was raised in an extremely authoritarian denomination. So now he is experiencing things he wasn’t allowed when a child. His eyes were as wide open as a child when we went to see the Nutcracker a couple of weeks ago. My theory: if he’s going to heal from the trauma of his youth he must replace with sweet memories.

He’s been getting Christmas presents for the past six weeks. Thought having them all under the tree Christmas morn might overwhelm him. Too much CHristian Humbug in his limb of the family tree IMO
His struggle with understanding GRACE comes from the lack of accepting the gift of JOY God gave us. He truly doesn’t think he is worthy of it. Still trying for perfection to earn his LOVE.
Keep all the Pauls of the world in prayer !

OTOH I may over do it:
One year my son decided he didn’t like having a December birthday so we decided he could chose another month. Each month we celebrated with treats, gifts and/or good times and at the end of the month he’d come up with a reason why that month wasn’t acceptable. We celebrated his birth for an entire year. What joy and what memories! What love
