It was a good run, Alabama. Hell, it was more of a good run. It was a great run. The No. 5 Crimson Tides 48-45 loss to No. 15 Auburn on Saturday dropped Alabama to 10-2 and out of the College Football Playoff. Barring some last weekend insanity it will be the first time in the College Football Playoff era that Alabama hasnt been one of the four teams playing for the national championship. When the penultimate set of College Football Playoff rankings come out on Tuesday, Alabama will be closer to No. 10 than it is to No. 4. And the door will be wide open for someone to seize the fourth and final playoff spot.

Michigan looked like it was going to be competitive until a hair pulling off side penalty against Michigan on 4th down that gave the Buckeyes a first down. Great teams take advantage of gifts like this and THE Ohio State did as it scored a TD and never looked back.
The RMS TitanicGophers hit an iceberg and sank.
Considering THE Ohio State's dominance of Michigan, the Iron Bowl might have overtaken The Game as the best game on Rivalry week. This Iron Bowl had it all. Auburn had 2 Pick 6s, 'Bama's Jaylen Waddle had a kickoff return TD and 3 TD receptions, there was a live clock 1 second FG, Auburn's stud DL Derrick Brown single handily stopped a 'Bama drive in Auburn territory that resulted in a doink FG miss. The game had a bizarre ending as 'Bama was called for too many men on the field penalty when Auburn kept its offense on the field for 4th down. The everlasting question about Nick Saban at 'Bama is why he never could bring in a reliable kicker.
Considering THE Ohio State's JK Dobbins ran all over Michigan I can't blame the defense for resorting to untying his sneakers: Video
This is what happens when an Auburn alum tries to relive her youth: Video
Bedlam has to be one of the most one sided rivalry games in college football as The Pokes have won only 18 games.
There were other football games today? Who knew?

Michigan needs to get rid of don brown who always has the worst game plan against ohio state. sad... get rid of don
First, Michagans nickname is the Wolverines, not Gophers.
Secondly, I thought Alabama was 5 in the standings, so not in the top 4.
LSU versus Georgia next week for the SEC Championship, so the loser will also drop out of the top 4.
I was referring to Minnesota.
The biggest bad beat of the week has to be the dog peeing incident in the Egg Bowl Game. That will haunt that kid for the rest of his life.
Though I’m and ACC fan, I think the top SEC teams are really the four best. It is absurd to downgrade them for losing to each other. Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, in any order.

The premise of this article is that Alabama’s loss opens up the fourth playoff spot, and that’s not true. Alabama was fifth going into yesterday.
A likely Georgia loss would clearly knock them out. A close LSU loss could keep the Tigers in the running.
League championship games should officially be round one of any BCS playoff system. If a team cant win their league then they should not be considered for the national title. That includes the SEC.
48-45 Will the pundits now claim the SEC doesn’t play defense? (Easy answer: No.)
Oklahoma
Utah
Baylor
Oregon
Seems to be current ranking of those 4 for the final spot.
Oregon needs Clemson to lose to open up another spot
Georgia and LSU play each other for the SEC championship, and Alabama would definitely have moved back into the top four to replace the loser of that game if they had beaten Auburn yesterday.
The downside of that approach is that it negates the possibility that the #2 team in a conference is legitimately one of the top four teams in the country.
The upside, though, is that it eliminates the possibility of that disgraceful debacle a couple of years ago when Alabama won the national title even though they didn't even qualify for the SEC title game (their one loss was in their division of the SEC).

If that’s the case, there’s no reason to play the CFP, just declare the winner of the SEC championship game the national champion.

That isn’t a ‘downside’. The purpose isn’t to choose the four best, it’s too determine the best. If you can’t win your conference championship, then obviously you’re not the best team in your conference.
Did you watch the game? Auburn defense scored 14 points.
