Not having a diamond-shaped gap between your forefingers when you touch them nail-to-nail could be a sign of lung cancer, according to experts.

The 'Schamroth window test' can reveal signs of a symptom called finger clubbing, which may be caused by the deadly disease.

God bless and keep you rolling right along as you continue to defy the statistics, however somewhere somebody invented them.

Exactly. Too vague. I'm sure there are lots of false positives AND false negatives.

For instance, my fingers have been distorted in shape for over 35 years. The finger joints are deformed, with on-and-off swelling from intermittently active rheumatoid inflammation. This test would never work for me.

Vague, unreliable self-diagnosis can cause a lot of anxiety to people with a touch of hypochondria.

What is the general theory as to why it causes the condition?? Perhaps lower levels of oxygen.

It seems to me that if you have clubbed nails there is certainly some issue that needs to be looked at.

And anxiety itself can lead to disease.

A chest x-ray can also be useful.

There you go...clubbed fingers are a sign of a condition in your body that needs medical attention.

You may have cancer and not have clubbed fingers..but if you have clubbed fingers you might want to check your oxygen levels and have it monitored with your physician to see if something develops. Apparently, heart conditions can cause it too..perhaps again due to oxygen

Not always. Family member had chest Xray and didn’t find the Stage 4 lung cancer. Don’t know why

Its not being touted as proof.

It is being touted as one possible indicator.

People with purposes and goals in life tend to live longer under illnesses and diseases. More of an inner drive to keep living.

“Clubbing occurs when the amount of soft tissue beneath the nail beds increases. It is not clear why the soft tissue increases, but it may be related to the levels of proteins that stimulate blood vessel growth. Clubbing occurs in some lung disorders (such as lung cancer, lung abscess, pulmonary fibrosis, and bronchiectasis) but not in others (pneumonia and asthma). Clubbing also occurs in some congenital heart disorders and liver disorders. In some cases, clubbing may be inherited and not indicate any disorder. Clubbing itself does not need treatment.”

Emphysema simply means air within tissue and can occur anywhere in the body. You need to be specific when using the term.

Maybe that 'inner drive' is actually an inner connection to *Life Itself* - and not just an ego desire to 'keep living'.

(There's a saying: "The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity." - sometimes attributed to Ellen Parr, sometimes to Dorothy Parker.)

A lot of very brilliant intellectuals have lived to great old age - I'm thinking particularly of Jacques Barzun, but there have been many others.

Stay Curious, my FRiend...

This is yet another ridiculous claim. I have been cured of lung cancer and my nails show the diamond shape.

I remember 40 years ago the claim that ample ear hairs were an indication of heart attacks.

I would think that these researches and doctors would find something better to do than this kind of crap.

Exactly.

As one who went through a relative that had a chest XRAY that didn’t show Lung cancer but had Stage 4 cancer...I want to know what signs to watch for when the “reliable” methods fail

I don’t have clubbed fingers. If I get them, I will be adamant about finding the cause.
