I See Dead People: Dreams and Visions of the Dying
YouTube ^ | December 2, 2015 | Dr. Christopher Kerr | TEDxBuffalo

Posted on 11/22/2019 11:38:54 AM PST by SunkenCiv

Dr. Christopher W. Kerr is the Chief Medical Officer at The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, where he has worked since 1999. His background in research has evolved from bench science towards the human experience of illness as witnessed from the bedside, specifically patients’ dreams and visions at the end of life. Although medically ignored, these near universal experiences often provide comfort and meaning as well as insight into the life led and the death anticipated.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

I like threads like this, too.

A lot of people are afraid to tell of these experiences; they believe that others will think they are just credulous and nutsy.

Anecdotal evidence is often undervalued. But when ‘science’ is reluctant to study certain phenomena in an open-minded way, it’s the best evidence with which we are left.

I believe that in the future, this will change - but it’s going to require some more ‘heroes’, like J. B. Rhine, Ian Stevenson, Dean Radin, etc., and academic ventures like the PEAR group at Princeton, or the Parapsychology Lab at Duke.

When I saw the future - fortunately I had told my husband about the “dream” 3 weeks before the event happened (a guy was killed at a sporting event). So afterwards I told people that I had dreamed this and no one believed me - they thought maybe I had a crush on the guy or I was imagining things. Only my husband knew because I had told him about my dream 3 weeks before. So yes, risk credibility but it was what it was.

I’ve had other things happen that lead one to believe there is more here than we can tell...but that one event was the biggest.

My great grandmother died when I was a child.
She came to say goodbye to us. I was in bed. After seeing the other children in the room she hovered above me then walked out through the wall.
Where she walked out of the room had been a door. It was blocked during a remodel before I was born.

I’ve never seen a suspicious UFO so I don’t believe in them.

I do believe in ghosts though.,

It’s a good idea to be judicious about the people in whom you choose to confide...

A number of years ago a friend of mine had a weird dream in which a woman approached her and asked her questions like was she happy, had she had a good life, what were her parents like, did she like her siblings, all sorts of personal questions.

We joked that she was the only person who would dream about taking a survey rather then hunky guys on a tropical beach.

About a year later she was contacted by her biological family. She had always known that she was adopted so this was no big surprise. They told her that her cousin had tracked her down as a memorial to her favorite aunt who had been my friend's biological mother. Her bio mother had passed away about a year ago.

When they showed my friend a picture of her bio mother it was the lady from her dream.

Did my friend's bio mother get to make one last stop before moving on to see if her child was happy? Don't know. But it was very strange.

Maybe UFOs are just different kinds of ‘ghosts’...

Dang. Some people have dreams about “hunky guys on a tropical beach’?

I’ve had a variation of that dream - I’m confronted with a test for which I haven’t studied.

(The dreams where I find myself naked are far less concerning.)

Ok here’s a few I can’t explain

After my mil died (she lived almost next door
to us) we were talking about her
we saw our kitchen paper towel roll unroll ...no window was open

After my fil died I smelled funeral flowers in my
bedroom ...no air freshener was in the vicinity

One of my sil sister very nice 45yo lady professes to be psychic
and says she can sense deceased relatives. The oddest occurrence was
At my recent 6x milestone birthday party in my home
this sister was there but my 9 yo niece also in attendance
with no knowledge possible about my mother who
passed in 93 andtold the psychic, then me
very seriously in the middle of the party (but
privately, not in front of everyone) that my mother had a message
for me, that I was her favorite. Now it was a sort of
injoke that my mom favored an older brother
(who passed in 17) but I was at once pleased and
completely shocked to the core that this young girl could
or would deliver such a message to me. Was my mom
teasing me or giving me a loving positive message from
beyond? How does anyone have psychic abilities and why
those people in particular, and how early in life?

My father died when I was eight.

After his death, my mother didn’t want to sleep alone, so she had me and my older sister sleep with her in their large bed. A few weeks after his death, mother woke us up one night and insisted that she saw my father standing at the foot of the bed.

Naturally, my sister and I didn’t know what to think and were a little scared. For years, I thought she probably just imagined seeing him. But, I’ve heard so many similar stories that, now, I believe that she really did see my dad.

“My husband died next to me unexpectedly at 3:11 a.m. I pray you never have to experience that.”

I’m so sorry that you had to experience that horrible event. In a previous post in this thread, I posted about my father’s death.

His time of death was very close to your husband’s time of death. My mother woke up with the feeling that something was horribly wrong. She touched my dad and found that he was already cold.

She started screaming and running through my and my sister’s rooms, crying that our father was dead. I was eight and my sister was fourteen so, naturally, we were shell shocked.

Your words resonated with me because my mother has often talked about how devastating it was to find our father lying dead next to her. That event affected her health for the worse.

Prayers for you.

The answer the skeptics told me was when we are dying, our brains, starved for oxygen and loaded with extra CO2, start hallucinating going down tunnels, seeing bright white, overpowering light, and perhaps seeing angelic beings, telling us it’s not yet our time.

All of this, they say, is just the human brain letting go.

However, nobody really knows because those that actually die aren’t around to tell us what they saw.

I’ve never had anyone I’ve lost including my spouse, mother & younger brother ever contact me in any way. Kinda wish they had.
