JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told a Christian broadcaster she learned her husband was seeking a divorce in an email from his attorney.
The revelation came in an interview released Tuesday with James Dobson, founder of the Family Talk Christian ministry. He said the interview had been conducted previously.
Palin said she received an email June 19 from the attorney, almost three months before Todd Palin filed for divorce on his birthday in September.
She described the filing that came shortly after their 31st wedding anniversary as devastating. I thought I got shot, she said.
Palin said theyre going through counseling and their marriage isnt over, over. She said attorneys are getting rich off them.

She said in the interview “Grass greener on the other side”He has a girlfriend. She wants to save the marriage.

May be necessary .. People change over the years.
Some grow closer together and others grow apart.
Very sad. I’m sure having a special needs child (Down Syndrome) puts a lot of strain on a marriage. Marriage is hard enough even when everything goes “right”.
Prayers for the entire family. It’s no fun when your parents divorce, no matter how old you are.
Agreed. I liked her. The future is a crazy mistress.
The funny thing about people. I can always find someone smarter and hot until the figure out Im not worth the trouble. Or they arent worth the trouble. it is just a matter for how long and how much effort.
Sounds like it.
He was in a terrible accident, a few years back. Broke nearly every bone in his body, IIRC.
I had a co-worker, years ago, whose hubby was in a terrible car accident. Nearly died. Long recovery road. She nursed him back to health, only to find out he’d been fooling around (likely cause of accident....wee hours of the morning, fell asleep at the wheel), before the accident. They divorced shortly after his recovery :(
Sad to see a couple go through all that they’ve (Palins) been through, and to throw it all away.
I’ll pray Sarah’s requested prayer....God’s will, for them. And, for His wisdom and peace, over the entire family.
She might be so self absorbed in her own life that she didnt know he wanted to end it. Happens all the time
Definitely sounds like it.
I was shocked when I first heard about this split too. I always got the feeling they are decent down to earth folks but fame, money, and celebrity status can really mess some people up.
I never thought Todd was cut out for the fame he never wanted. He can’t even blow his nose without making the news. Maybe he wants out of this kind of life altogether. He can’t really escape it but maybe he thinks a divorce will lessen the impact of it all.
At least one of the kids is into the celeb thing. I don’t know what Sarah’s been doing but I bet she does speeches and appearances she gets paid for. Maybe Todd met someone else while home alone so much and thought he wanted a more quiet life with someone who stays home. I don’t know and neither does anyone here.
I posted my divorce story to a board (no about divorce) once. The board was about 80% women. I got the heat. None could believe what I said was the truth. I had to be a monster in order to create a story so far against their stereotypes.
Lesson learned. Sometimes the truth isnt helpful to yourself and others. Sometimes you need to lie to yourself and more to others.
No problem, I knew it was a joke and wasnt offended:)
I just felt compelled to defend Sarah from all of the unfounded attacks.
Regarding the game: Bamas Defense has been decimated by injuries, youth and a clueless defensive coordinator, so the loss didnt shock me.
Considering that the first half of the game was Murphys Law on Steroids, Im proud of Bama for storming back in the second half and almost pulling off an improbable comeback.
I wont even mention the questionable calls that went LSUs way.
Im over it and moving on. I just feel that Sarah is unfairly being blamed just because shes a female.
I don’t think she’s that ‘unaware’.
It’s just my opinion, but I think they both want to move on, and have found a way to do it.
That happens, too. Nothing wrong with it, as long as it’s a decision mutually decided upon and carried out respectfully with regard to one another, to family, and to society.
Amen.
Sad to say......Sara will find out it’s somebody she knows.
Martha Stewart’s husband left her for one of her kitchen staff.
I think there needs to be some unofficial rule on FR that, when Freepers tell stories such as yours, they have to preface the post with I am a woman or I am a man. The first read through made no sense at all because I thought you were a man.
Funny. I had the same reaction. I guess I naturally read it from my own perspective as a guy. Got real confused about the part with being best friends with the bride. Then I figured it out and it made a lot more sense.
Thx but No thanks. Its history now. Grown up since then (hardened the shell). My point was many people cant believe the truth when they see or hear it regardless because it doesnt fit their views of people, genders, the teller .... sometimes the truth is the truth even if we refuse to believe it.
Any guesses about why this happens? Philosophical reasons?
......martha was engrossed in her celebrity status....she forgot hubby needed her attention, too....
That wouldn’t surprise me. Wasn’t he in the hospital for quite a while? Not sure if it was severe. A friend of my mom’s once told me of her ex...things were fine until he suffered a severe brain injury in a car accident. After that he was very different, and started looking for ‘relations’ with other men in rest stop areas. She found out and that was pretty much that. Not saying this is what Mr. Palin is doing, just that major brain trauma has various outcomes.
