Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley defended President Trump as "truthful" and said she never questioned the president's fitness for office during a combative interview with Today's Savannah Guthrie.
Haley, 47, has been defending the president on her media tour to promote her new book, With All Due Respect: Defending America with Grit and Grace, which was published on Tuesday. "I am way over time, but let me just quickly, because its been out there and you worked in this administration. Did you ever have any doubt about the fitness of this president?" Guthrie asked Tuesday morning. Haley, who alleged former chief of staff John Kelly and former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had tried to usurp the president, responded, "I never did," adding that she never doubted his mental acuity.

Let me get this straight. It is assumed that she didn’t tell Trump, because you don’t know about it, no evidence. If you don’t know about it, it didn’t happen. Now she answered that she did tell him, but to you she is still a liar because Trump didn’t verify?
She's in the position the president is often in: some people take her literally, but not seriously, and others take her seriously but not literally.
If you take her literally, she's lying and you hate her (or if you already hate her, you take her literally). She opposed Trump when he was going for the nomination, and she must have questioned his fitness for the office at that time, certainly privately, and probably publicly as well.
If you take her seriously, as saying that since he was elected and she was appointed she has been a loyal employee and hasn't publicly questioned his fitness for the office or conspired against him, then who knows? She might be right about that.
It's common in politics that people in the same party fight it out before the nomination. What matters is what happens after the nomination and after the general election.
Is she trying to replace Pence? Yes and no. She might want to take the nomination away from him in 2024, but I don't think she wants to be the VP nominee in 2020. Even if she's loyal to Trump, there is some tension between them and her patience and her nerves wouldn't survive the daily stress. Pence doesn't get as agitated or frazzled by all the ups and downs.
And at this point, it's not that people haven't heard enough about "natural born citizenship," it's that they've either heard too much or not liked what they've heard.
Savannah Guthrie is a DNC shill, as she is married to a top DNC lobbyist. Anything coming out of her on the NBC Today show is fake news.
“Nikki Haley defended President Trump as “truthful” and said she never questioned the president’s fitness for office “
... and he never beat Melania either.
I’m glad to hear she informed the president. To me, that was a pivotal sort of question;
one type of person would be up front and tell the president right then what was going on. Another type of person would keep it concealed for years, even from the president. A sneaky person would save that as a potent weapon to be used when it would most benefit them personally.
“Do we know that she did not?”
I just heard on FOX that she says she did inform Trump that these two were talking this way. Either Trump is helpless or a monumental reckoning is coming. The only other option is that we have been deceived again, and I don’t believe that.
But that interview on NBC this morning? Ms. Haley totally put the *itch doing the interview in her place. Wow.
Awww....but didn’t you get some pleasure out of her humiliating Savannah?
Excellent summaries!
I found myself nodding in agreement through most of it.
One should never forget that in politics just like any other part of civilized life, people often change over time.
I used to be a Democrat, brought up in such a home.
I stayed that way until after the Rodney King incidents of 1991. After that, I questioned my leadership.
His not denying it is sufficient. If she were lying he’d destroy her with a single tweet.
She knows he’s going to be reelected which is why she’s saying these things. Otherwise, she’d either keep quiet or be dissing him. I
I always thought it was a mistake he hired her to be US ambassador. I agree with Trump on his policy, but his selection for staff is questionable to say the least. How many Obama appointees are STILL in the administration? They should have been served walking papers Jan 20th 2017!
Welcome old timer, it is a time honored tradition here on FR to let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Its how liberalism always eventually wins.
The Republican party (and the Republic itself) doesn't need more people who turn whatever way the wind blows. We need deep-rooted oak trees that will stand firmly in spite of it.
Her PC response to condemning the confederate flag and monuments was idiotic. I didn’t see her as putting the interviewer in her place. She defended her actions sure, but to do anything less would be seen as cowardly and weak. I’ll give her kudos for standing her ground.
Good question. I mean, I understand that you had to have some replacements first before firing all of Obama's people, but I'd be curious to know how many Schedule C Obama appointees are still in government.
Isn’t that the point of the transition team in the time between election day and inaugeration day? Getting a NEW team assembled to hit the ground running not letting the infection of the swamp linger for days, weeks, months, and now years...
Shes a politician. What is she running for now?
LOL, great reply
