Im almost 60 and have had a full head of obsidian hair all my life. It started thinning out about a year ago. I quit using shampoo about a month ago (just rinsing and scrubbing with hot water) and it has started to grow back in and thicken (caveman like, LOL).
I know a lot of it is genetics, but makes me wonder if the chemicals in the modern shampoos and soaps are screwing us up genetically. Anyone had any similar experiences.
Ive used head and shoulders forever. Now Im bald. Oh well.
You probably still have your head and shoulders as per the label.
Got rid of the expensive brands and switched to VO-5. Cheap and rinses out quicky. Hair much better since the switch.
My mother and her sisters used V0-5 until they passed in their late 80’s.
Maybe it was the brand of shampoo you were using-one size does not fit all-even when it comes to shampoo...
I recommend that you switch to chemical-free soap, shampoo, and other personal care products AND get your thyroid function checked. If you want to simplify things, Kirk's Castile Soap is chemical-free and can also serve as a shampoo.
You may already have had a thyroid function test that showed normal, but it could easily be stale due to the passage of a few years. Get your thyroid function retested.
baldness skips generations
I lost 30+ lbs in 6 months and my hair thinned and I had a bald spot, it is back but not as full.
took 2 years.

Although not fashionable in the city, in this rural area long hair on women of all ages is more common than short hair is-the owner of the local hair salon is a master at creating formal styles for long hair. Lots of guys with gray/white ponytails and beards out here, too...
My hair is below my waist and I shampoo once a week-sometimes twice-but I work in construction so my hair does get sawdust, paint, etc in it, even when worn in a bun or ponytail-about 8 years ago, I noticed some thinning so I started taking biotin and using Nutri-ox conditioner from Sally Beauty Supply-it is not thick, or oily so it doesn’t weigh hair down or feel icky-my hair got thicker and has stayed that way. Since I do color my gray roots back to red, I use a color-protective shampoo,-tried 3-4 or those before I found one that wasn’t too oily for my hair. I think finding the hair products that are right for you is a trial and error thing-the same thing is not going to work for everyone, no matter what the product advertising says...
Just hot water wont do the job if youre a woman who uses hair products: hair color, conditioner/detangler, hairspray etc. I am 63 and I have a TON of hair, its like a horse tail LOL. I have to use various hair products to tame and smooth my hair.
But I suppose hot water is better than nothing at all.
I shave my head, so I have NO opinion on shampoo, HOWEVER!, I stopped using soap (aside for hand washing) over three years ago. I wash daily with plain water (well water), and have found that the natural oils on my skin have returned, and that my skin is noticeably healthier. I have not noted any offensive body odor (or any at all, for that matter) and if I have any, nobody has mentioned it. All and all, I have come to believe that the entire “personal hygiene/grooming industry”, that removes natural skin oils with soaps and detergents, that then have to be (inadequately) replaced by expensive oils, lotions, and creams, is just another SCAM!!!
That’s my two bits, take it or leave it.
I'm 72 with a head full of thick blonde hair. No receding hairlines or thinning anywhere. Very little gray except some at my temples and in my beard and mustache.
People say if makes me look 15-20 years younger.
I'm not complaining. :-)
????
The vitamins you mentioned. Those are the ingredients.
Or, at least for some that are sane name/similar.
Thanks, Texan5! We’re all different. My hair is a little longer than shoulder length. It’s mostly brown, with some greys. I shampoo 6 to 7 days a week, because I work out that often. I’ve tried so many different shampoos, and Biolage is working fairly well right now. I still use mousse, if you can believe it! :)
I wasn’t sure what you meant ; ) I am absolutely loyal to them. They are not inexpensive, but there’s always a $5.oo coupon inside each box. They are my hair holy grail. I also look out for sales.
I work out 3-4 times per week, but over the past year, I have bought all my own free weights and resistance bands/cables, so I can work out right in front of my A/C in Summer so I don’t get too sweaty-there is a small gym about 5 miles away, but even out here it is more expensive than I’m going to pay when I can come straight from work and work out at home...
my mom had exact same issue. She would find herself scratching until there were small spots that would ooze. Doctor prescribed a steroid but I suggested rinsing her hair every other day with a cup of water mixed with a cup of apple cider vingar (Braggs is the best for this or even Washington House as long as it has the “mother” in it which makes it look almost dirty and cloudy). Cleared her scalp up and stopped the itching. When your hair dries the apple cider smell is completely gone so don’t worry about that.
