Jimmy Page was interviewed for a cover story in the latest issue of Uncut, where he talks about the potential of a LED ZEPPELIN film, career regrets (or not), and carrying on the legacy of ZEPPELIN as the best band in the world.
Speaking to writer Michael Bonner about why he feels no other bands could come close to LED ZEPPELIN, Page said: "It's really hard to say something like that and not sound conceited, but over the years, a lot of other musicians have told me they thought we were the best. I'm not talking about record sales or concert attendance, although I think we can hold our own with anyone. What I mean is: when you talk about a band as a collaborative musical unit, we were the best. I am not talking about one or two genius songwriters, and everyone else tagging along. I am talking about a collection of musicians who are each at the top of their craft in their own right. In LED ZEPPELIN, we were exactly that."
Elaborating on why he previously told interviewer Charlie Rose in 2012 that LED ZEPPELIN was the best band in the world while Robert Plant demurred, Page said: "If you are a young musician and you want to hear how a band works well together, then we're a pretty good blueprint. John [Paul Jones] and me. Robert and me. John Paul Jones and John Bonham. Every combination of the quartet could bring something special. Robert probably said, 'Oh, well, there were a lot of great bands,' to that interviewer because that is the gentlemanly reply. And I agree with him...But when you are talking about rock 'n' roll alchemy, I had to say what I thought. We were the best."

I saw them both. Great bands. But they have nothing on the Who, who composed operas that will pass the test of time, like Puccini, Bizet, et al. And then we have Emerson, Lake , and Palmer, who may not have composed operas, but their pieces have classical connections. This thread is going to be interesting.
Or as one girl I knew she could listen to Roxy Music Avalon and want to take her clothes off
Im pretty sure I dated her for a bit.

Here's an anecdote. In 2002 (or so), I went to a Bo Diddley concert. Or should I say, a Bo Diddley rambling. He told a story of he and his sister going to England to be with the Jagger, who liked to learn from blues legends and others to learn directly about their craft. Jagger didn't just copy them, he learned from them and performed with them. That's why I consider him, with influences like early rocker Tina Turner, the genius behind classic R&R.
I make a distinction tween rock and roll and rock and you could almost put southern rock by itself since it was so country influenced
Rock
Zepplin
Pink Floyd
Who
Cream Blind Faith Free Cactus for brief bands
Rush even though they are late for my era and not my taste they are damn good....especially the drummer
Black Sabbath cause nobody else does what they did as well....sorry Lemmy I loved ya
ACDC cause they travel so good through the years....carried on the shoulders of an affable cute midget
Van Halen cause they were fun although late for me as well
Traffic
Rock and Roll
Stones.....second place is way back and they own rock and roll mostly due to one man who refuses to expire
Southern Rock
Allman Brothers cause Duane might have been the best ever....his peers from Eric to Jimi to Jeff sure thought he was
Skynyrd...cause they sang to me
ZZ Top cause they did it well and with fun
Dead like Beatles are a stand alone band
Zappa without Beef aint right
And for acid soaked music
Jorma is someone I never tire of
And the Moody Blues for safely shepherding me back to earth on many occasions when I needed that soothing music to ponder as I rearranged the chessboard again
Post late 70s music is another matter
I think Metallica would win that rock mantle,...easily.
Maybe I missed it, but how is Aerosmith not getting more love on this thread?
Compilation of the big bands music along with dancing.
Best sound ever.

Freddie King could hang with anybody. Read what Clapton says about him.
And I didn’t even post Jimi’s picture.
Dunbar
What a path eh....
My preference for this or that band has zero to do with how they work as a soundtrack for whatever extracurricular activity comes along. That said, I may prefer the Stan Kenton Orchestra on Sunday mornings and punk or thrash before a board presentation, The Who when I'm pissed, and Queen when I feel victorious. I think Dark Side is a better album than The Wall but I find myself listening to the latter more than the former.
I hope so ....she was fun...and a true blonde....
Redhead on this end. Havent thought about her in years. I may need a few minutes....
Avalon was love making music on a rainy evening.
Or a chilly fall Saturday....

My wife likes Let It Bleed in total for that
Shes an Xer she learned that era music from a brother 16 years her senior....thankfully
Her ringtone on my phone is Stray Cat Blues
You can kinda see my mindset ..... her and the Stones..lol
I hear the klick klack of yore feet on the stairs.....
David Glimour and Wright. I saw on an interview over Syd Barrett and his demise.....both said Wish was their fav album they did
Surprised me.
I like it too but I expected something heavier
Totally understand and respect your defense of the band you like, but Page was/is most definitely not one of the most talented guitarists ever. Not even in the conversation.
I was in the 13th row center in the Forum that tour. The night they added after the first ones sold out. Saw them in 75 in San Diego and three times in LA in 77.
Aerosmith is a National Treasure. I believe they get the short end of the stick in these discussions because you basically have two bands....pre-Permanent Vacation and post-PV. I think the older fans sort of resent the "new fans" because their song favs push tunes like Nobody's Fault off the set list. It's a bit like Van Halen vs Van Hagar, except in the case of Aerosmith it's the same band that splits the vote. To be fair, I'm not a fan of Aerosmith's newer material but I'd ever discount their influence on music.
