Jimmy Page was interviewed for a cover story in the latest issue of Uncut, where he talks about the potential of a LED ZEPPELIN film, career regrets (or not), and carrying on the legacy of ZEPPELIN as the best band in the world.
Speaking to writer Michael Bonner about why he feels no other bands could come close to LED ZEPPELIN, Page said: "It's really hard to say something like that and not sound conceited, but over the years, a lot of other musicians have told me they thought we were the best. I'm not talking about record sales or concert attendance, although I think we can hold our own with anyone. What I mean is: when you talk about a band as a collaborative musical unit, we were the best. I am not talking about one or two genius songwriters, and everyone else tagging along. I am talking about a collection of musicians who are each at the top of their craft in their own right. In LED ZEPPELIN, we were exactly that."
Elaborating on why he previously told interviewer Charlie Rose in 2012 that LED ZEPPELIN was the best band in the world while Robert Plant demurred, Page said: "If you are a young musician and you want to hear how a band works well together, then we're a pretty good blueprint. John [Paul Jones] and me. Robert and me. John Paul Jones and John Bonham. Every combination of the quartet could bring something special. Robert probably said, 'Oh, well, there were a lot of great bands,' to that interviewer because that is the gentlemanly reply. And I agree with him...But when you are talking about rock 'n' roll alchemy, I had to say what I thought. We were the best."

Ive probably listened to every one of their albums 1000+ time, ive seen page and plant a couple times, and have every video recording that exists to my knowledge
Best vovalist, best drummer by far, and Page may not be Hendrix he is probavly one of the most talented guitarists ever
I saw FZ in 1981. It literally changed my life. I never saw music or entertainment the same after that show. He played for about 2 hours without a break...he closed the main part of the show with Yo’ Mama, and that’s when Chad Wackerman stopped for the first time all night and towed himself off. I’d never seen any band play like that. He closed with the most intense version of Whippin’ Post ever. I basically stopped listening this anything except Zappa and The Who for about 2 years after that gig.
LZ was absolutely brilliant in the studio, but fell flat live.
Just catch a Greta Van Fleet concert tomorrow...
Best band?
Benny Goodman. Bringing in Gene Krupa, Lionel Hampton, Peggy Lee, and so many other musicians who would have fantastic careers onto one stage.
I like Rock as well, but really the skills required to keep that many fussy musicians (many of whom were addicts just like today) sober at performances and traveling to venues they are supposed to be at transcends bandleaders for little guitar bands.
I forgot about that completely, so I went to youtube to refresh my memory. I guess tastes vary.

Live, GD when on was the best. Easily.
They sucked in the studio, but who cares.
“Best” is so subjective as to be meaningless. But, when it comes to rock and roll, few compare to Zep. They were very, very good.
I never saw them live, but I did see The Who, and I remember thinking this has got to be the best band and on the planet. They ROCKED.
I suppose if I could choose, it would be Zep and Floyd. But, I’m been thinking for a while that maybe, just maybe, Radiohead is the best band of all time.

The Beatles deserve their mantle though...after Elvis cut the path they blazed it ...they just don’t wear as well overall
no one came close to Page as far as the combination of guitarist, producer, arranger...
everytime i listen to their studio albums I marvel the way Page put the songs together...Even an incredible song such as When the Levee Breaks- despite all the heaviness, the intricacies of that song are incredible..
Led Zeppelin has my vote.

Yardbirds were pivotal and spawned three great guitarists but their body of work is tiny compared to Zepplin
And far less complex
I really liked Led Zeppelin III.
