Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Ric Ocasek, lead singer of the rock band The Cars, died Sunday in New York at age 75.
Police said they received a call around 4 p.m. for an unconscious male at a townhouse on East 19th Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Law enforcement sources confirmed the deceased was Ocasek.
Ocasek and his band were inducted into the Rock Hall in 2018. The institution described the band as "hook-savvy with the perfect combo of new wave and classic rock."
The band had 13 top-40 singles, including radio staples like "Good Times Roll" and "Just What I Needed," and Ocasek went on to a successful producing career after The Cars broke up in the late 1980s.

RIP Ric Ocasek
OH My Goodness! I loved so much of the Cars Music.
I knew he had been ill for a long time, so it’s not a shock, but still a sad day for his many, many fans.
One of a kind band and singer!!
Let The Good Times Roll...Rick.
Another part of my teenage years is gone.
Wow, been a big week.
Btw, no one has to mention Keith Richards. Little known fact is hes already dead. Been a zombie for many many years now.
The Cars were part of that era, along with Donnie Iris, the Knack, the Ramones and a small handful of others.
RIP Ric
Didn’t know he was that much older than me. I started listening to The Cars in 1979.
“The Cars” - one of the 25 greatest albums of all time. RIP to a great artist.
So, Paulina Poriskova is single then...
I remember the Cars.
RIP Ric
I have a few of their albums...on vinyl :)
I just did a Google image search on her. Wow!
You better get over there right away and comfort her!
Paulina has been officially ‘on the market’ for the last year. She and Rick divorced last spring after 28 years.
One of their two sons; Christopher Ocasek looks like Roger Smith, the lead singer of The Cure, just without the Kabuki make up.
Paulina has posed undraped in Sports Illustrated just this past January. She said she did it to help ‘empower older women’.
Just damn!
Wow. Loved them in the 70’s. Best era ever.
Wow , I listened to Let The God Times Roll and several other Cars songs today while I was working outside. So sad ::(
Ric Ocasek truly made the world a better place through his music. Coincidentally I have been listening to a lot of their live music lately on YouTube. While they truly had a unique, one-of-a-kind sound, here they are flat out, rocking to a lesserknown song named Cruiser. Great video.
Me too. The song “Drive” was playing on radio in 1984 when I was told my Mom had past away. I had just had our middle son and my Mom was dying from breast cancer stage 4. She died 6 weeks from diagnosis. I cry every time I hear that song on the radio.
