Powell is very hesitant to give the direction they desire. I would venture a guess that the goal is to get a dismissal AND the evidence they are seeking. Probably going to settle for the dismissal. More than 2 years and the Gov’t still hasn’t turned over evidence. I doubt they ever will. This is SOP for the DS. Delay and then punt. Judges have no further commitment after a dismissal.

Carrier groups will continue to be a thing as there is a limitation on what you can do with only missles. You can’t land a force without the appropriate protection. And if you can’t take the ground then it just ends up with limited progress and a lot of money spent.
I’ve predicted for a while though that we will start to see drone ships operated from afar. My dream is to have a large drone sub, similar to a ballistic missile sub, that can surface, launch a flight of predator type drones, submerge, then resurface during return operations. All - sub and flying drones operated from a place like Norad.
It’s likely 50 years away though.
