They were doing cpr. One guy standing to the side doing compressions, one guy ventilating with a bag. Maybe for show maybe to cover his face so you couldn’t tell it was an imposter.

Several movies have had this theme where the criminal takes a med to slow everything down as in death, but recovers later.
