My understanding of Italy is the further south one goes the dirtier the cities are. So Rome was not quite at Naples level but not as hygienic as Milan.

Luther made the same observations when he visited Rome.

I’ve always felt that rodent, animal and fish problems are simply an opportunity for recreation, hunters, fishing...

Turn that frown upside down and have some fun??!!!

Loved the Amalfi Coast.

But outside of the Coliseum and that area, Rome is a dump.

“The carcass of a bloated rat”

Joy Behar died?

Why wasn’t I informed of this?

Sounds awesome for one’s microbiome!
I know of a friend’s son who’s chosen Rome for a semester abroad. Oh well.

“Liberally scattering Rat poison”

Liberals.....poisoning everything.

You know the old saying,

“When in Rome, be sure to fling rat poison around.”

Yeah... I was going to say this is nothing new... but it is a little worse than when I was there about 10 years ago.

I’ll add another little tidbit to the mix that the article did not: It is not uncommon for the Mafia to get involved in garbage collection—they let garbage pile up until there is a health crisis, then work to get hired at a higher rate than normal to clean it up. It’s been going on in Naples this way for years.

Not sure if it’s now happening in Rome or not.

My MIL and her Italian second generation American boyfriend visited Italy a few years ago. He was not impressed.

Italy, he said, was dirty and corrupt. They were forced to purchase toilet paper from a men guarding the entrances to restaurant’s restrooms. The sauces were so thin they “weren’t Italian”, and everywhere it was dirty.
In short, he was disappointed.

My Daughter went a few years ago and said rats and cats were a problem. My daughter has 5 cats so take that in consideration.
