Linky only.
Lord have mercy, I'd be barfing and considering deserting.
I always carry with me some 100-calorie packs of Almonds & Walnuts, 80% Fat Calories.
Females called Rangers, females called Infantry Officers, Armor Officers, Artillery Officers.....Females called submariners, females called enlisted in all those areas....readiness be damned, and our pro military president has not lifted a finger to roll back obama’s policies.
Raise your hand if you’re happy you already have a DD214.

In the : so it has come to this Dept.
atkins/keto/induction diets are silly, but some people need silly crutches.
Just eat less.
I seriously doubt this. Not even the military is that stupid. And I SUPPORT keto diets.
“I have my DD-214.”
Then you understand the idiotic lack of thought process concerning military and weight and fitness standards.
Back when they took notice of public appearance after Vietnam in the mid 70’s, they went overboard on an aerobic thought process combined with 1000 calorie diets that were designed to lose weight. They then further hammered the military member with monthly weigh ins that would hit a certain number or there was punishment from extra duty, to letters of counsel, to articles 15’s, to court martial for failure to follow orders. And all for appearance purposes and not to some field grade or senior officers or high senior NCO’s. I know of one extremely high army commander that was vastly overweight that had his personal recumbent bike within a curtained off area in one of the gyms at the post and no one but he was to get on it. And that is what kept him off the $hit list as he was trying to handle it. Did he? Not even close. So it was just a sham.
Keto is a low carb diet designed to starve the body into weight loss. You, as a past member, understand that exercise for a GI, especially a combat one, is essential for the job but only to meet minimum requirements of a one size fits all template. Sorry, but DNA screws that up alone. Furthermore, carbs for the body are like gasoline for the car. Bad gas, doesn’t run right. Lacking food essential for conditioning doesn’t either.
And by cutting out the glucose in the blood stream it is artificially creating a hypoglycemic scenareo in the blood thus triggering such possibilities as heart attack, stress, dehydration, and in it’s most acute situations from extended application, major illnesses, such as sepsis, pancreatitis, or myocardial infarction. Welcome to heaven.
I’m an ex-department of the army physical and combatives trainer from the early 2000’s and have seen these thoughts come and go leaving havoc in their wake. The military member doesn’t need to look like a gazelle. Gazelles can’t carry a 50+ pound ruck on a dead run for 100 years or more. This is why they are starting toward physical training geared toward more trunk strength. However, they are still working with the same weight standards as the soldier gets bigger. Just doesn’t seem intelligent, does it?

The Army and Navy have two entirely different versions of SOS Navy version was red. I served in both and the fact is the Navy used to eat way better than the Army, no clue how they eat now because I left the Navy in 1965.
Check out Butter Bob Beggs on Youtube, lost 149 pounds on Butter and Lard based diet. I eat pretty much keto today as well keeps blood sugar down sucks on flavor but I try to keep carbs below 30 a day.
Ping.
They’re publicizing this the same week they set an enlistment goal to get to 500,000 active duty ? Good luck with that. I would prefer the old ‘68 C-rats over that menu.
Caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol seems to work just fine.
Won’t happen, imho.
I have lost all the weight I wanted to and am now on a modified keto diet using balanced macros (macros being carbs, protein, and fat). My diet is basically a low carb diet (no bread, pasta, potatoes, etc.), with high fat, moderate protein intake. I am not in ketosis but could get in ketosis in about 24 hours of water fasting.
For those new to the keto diet, here is a great video on the subject (it is complicated)...BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO KETOSIS by Dr. Boz
My conclusion about life AFTER KETO is: I think the keto diet is great for getting the weight off, but staying on it depends on what a body is required to do.
Bodies burning fat (in ketosis) are great for long, slow endurance operations because fat is a slow extraction process (extraction from adipose tissue) and slow cool burn for energy compared to glucose (carbs and sugar) which is fast and hot.
I found fat (keto-burn) is NOT good for high-intensity training or operations. That requires glucose (carbs) in the blood for immediate access and quick, hot burn.
Since the body burns glucose in the blood and liver first, carbs are needed for high intensity work. Ergo, I eat higher carb veggies before weight lifting and/or doing high intensity workouts like (in my case) sprints on the bike.
If I am going to do a lot of biking hill work, I eat bananas before or during the workout. BTW, bananas are NOT permitted on keto because of their sugar content. But they are great when quick bursts of energy are needed during workouts.
Bottom line for the military: this nutrition stuff is very complicated and striking the right balance of input is going to vary from person to person and vary depending on what a body is required to do.
But I think the military is on the right track in general. And keto is a great way to get the weight off because it attacks the problem and that is that the weight itself is the result of America's carbohydrate (i.e. sugar) addiction.
First thing in the morning hydration has also been recommended to me by a work mate who's been on some structured diet (he and his bride paid hundreds up front to be on it, she paid for herself, and he's just been doing the same, good for the relationship as well) and has been very successful.
I got two DD-214’s(I had a break in service). These idiots really think that this will work? Troops will just go off base and throw this diet in garbage bin. Mess halls will see a definite drop in troops eating there.
For me, keto works best in conjunction with fasting (intermittent is easiest). I still skip dinner several days a week to give my system a rest. Have done it for many, many years...long before autophagy became all the rage.
As an aside, I used to use daily fasting (skipping dinner) as a means to stay skinny for sports (biking and running). Only recently did I learn that it is such a good cleansing, rebuilding, and healing protocol. Who knew?;-)
