Arby's has flipped the vegan 'meat' trend on its head (tr)

From venison, elk, and duck to sandwiches with layers upon layers of meat and curly fries stacked on top, Arby's has offered some particularly unique products in the past.

Now the sandwich chain is flipping the vegan "meat" trend on its head, leaning into its "We have the meats" slogan and creating its most bizarre concoction yet: the "megetable," a vegetable made out of meat.

And Arby's new megetable, the "Marrot," is exactly what it sounds like: a meat-based carrot that not only tastes like the orange vegetable but has much of its nutritional value.

It's not meant to catch on. It's meant to generate free publicity and public curiosity. Like Burger King rolling out those burgers and black buns. Or KFC making those "sandwiches" where the bread is pieces of chicken.

It's a wink and nod to how they don't cater to vegans and you chuckle when you read it in the paper and then, they hope, you decide to go to Arby's for a proper sammich.

“The sandwiches are OK but the ads make them look better than they are”

True for every restaurant / fast food commercial on TV. There should be a crack down, it’s false advertising. Having said that the Chicken, Pecan Salad Sandwich from Arby’s is first rate. Just not as big as shown on TV.

Not to rain on your parade but they don’t always give me the number of packets I request. I love me some horsey sauce on my roast beef sammich but when they give me one ... grrrrrr....

Good for them! Hilarious send-up of all the phony plant-based burgers out there.

Unsurprising, though, that it was Arby’s who pulled this off, as they definitely have an aptitude in the imitation foods department. Their heated, processed meat strains any conventional definition of “roast beef.” Doesn’t taste bad, though.

All they need for the ad campaign is a Moe Howard lookalike who walks up and pokes some droning vegan right in both eyes with a couple of those "marrots" -- followed by James Earl Jones' voice, "we have the meats". Thanks Politically Correct.

And it seems to be an appeal to those on the right sick of PC nonsense. “The world wants you to be a cucked out, soyboi vegan? We have the meat vegetables!”

Yeah you need one of each horsey and BBQ sauce per a small sandwich. Double that for the large sandwiches.
Yeah. :-D

Arby’s is good...my fourth favorite fast food chain. Not as good as CFA, 5 Guys, PDQ or DQ...but good...

followed by James Earl Jones' voice, "we have the meats". Thanks Politically Correct.

Ving Rhames's deep voice is the center of many recent (2015–present) Arby's commercials, with the catchline 'Arby's, we have the meats!'

Not JEJ. He was Darth Vader.

Awesome. The world needs a soybean substitute made from meat.

Couldn’t get to one the stores serving the duck, but Arby’s pork belly sandwiches were pretty darn good.

I've seen the ingredients on non-meat "meat" products. More processing than Phyllis Diller's hair. Ingredients no one but a scientist recognizes.

No thanks. If I want meatless burgers I'll make it at home with lentils or soybeans mixed with eggs and bread crumbs. Real food.
