Topical zinc is helpful, especially for fungal infections.

My Step dads toe nails never looked right. He said because of the rot from the constant wet feet from Humping the Hills around Dak To.

The whole movie was funny as hell in the ‘70s. I’m sure some of it still holds up. I saw it long before I saw “Go Tell the Spartans. “ It ruined me for anything serious that Evan Kim might have done.

“After adopting a cat with ringworm, I was told to wash with Selsun Blue dandruff shampoo.”

I had tinea versicolor (TV)...a yeast infection. Used to crop up in the summer, especially after working outside. A previous dermatologist told me to use Selsun Blue. It worked, usually quickly, but didn’t last.

Later in life, I visited another dermatologist for something else, and just happened to ask about TV. She said use “Nizoral”...buy it off the shelf at CVS. It was expensive but knocked the TV out...and has never come back. I’ll use it only very occasionally just too be sure. The stuff worked well for me. It contains Ketoconazole 1%.

yeast is the dormant root stage, the fruiting body is the fungus.

Ask your doctor about long term therapy with miconazole, ketoconazole, or one of these in that family.

You will need an rx after exam and blood tests for kidneys and liver, because some have side effects that are exacerbated by other problems and conditions.

if it truly is a fungus, you can get Hold of it.

Probably take a while, as it takes months and months to clear some fungus'

I had it on may hands and thighs, took over a year, was treated in the mid seventies, not recurred since.

Glad to see you keep your sense of humor and you sound pretty tough.

Not sleeping is BRUTAL and I was up for close to 70 hours quite a few times in the years following the head injury. Pretty much OK now but I wake up with monster tremors. Every morning is an adventure! :)

Headaches were indescribable first 5 years then got better. They are gone.

Mine was 2007. Fell down cement stairs in NYC. Klutz!!

Ah, you grunts take a licking and keep on ticking :)

Blaze Orange Spandex??? How did the driver miss that?!?!

Sounds like you took a shot!

Glad you are still with us.

There are many “remedies” for it. Most are not permanent. The most successful that I have heard of involve broad spectrum antibiotics and iodine. Old family Friend Dr that specialized in tropical diseases insisted that you had to do ALL of your laundry with some bleach added. Get rid of all foot wear on a regular basis and constantly disinfect with the spray from bowling alleys.

My father picked up the jungle rot on Guadalcanal. Spent six months in the hospital to get it under control. The doctors told him when he was discharged that he could never donate blood, as the fungus would always be in his blood.

He didn’t have any more problems with it until one time in the early 80’s, when the temperature was over 100 degrees every day for almost two weeks. And that crap came back on him again, all over his legs.

So, you may be able to control it, but I don’t know if you will ever truly get rid of it.

Perhaps that means showering less and using a gentle soap which does not kill the beneficial organisms.

Very interesting, thank you!!!

When I had the poison ivy, the Dermatologist recommended the use of gentle soap, my wife had some’fancy oatmeal soap’ of unknown provenance. I attributed the improvement to the Tacrolimus ($$$), may have been the soap!!

I ask the Dr. if it was systemic?
She said definitely not and probably a yeast.

...colonies which may not be eradicated.
I did not ask my Dr. the right question.
And she is not one to stand with a hand on the doorknob.
She answers all my questions, I print them out so as not waste her time.

I know that skin problems can be very complex and difficult to treat. I think you have filled in some missing parts to the puzzle.

My current thinking, Lamisil to bring it under control and try a different soap for four weeks.
If it disappears, a VERY light application of Tacrolimus (most of a 60 g tube left over) twice a week ... forever.
See what happens.

The Tacrolimus seemed slower acting than the Lamisil, but it was the only long lasting product?
If it works, don’t fix it.
Curing the symptoms long term would make me happy.

Thank you, for a deeper understanding of my problem.

You have to rearrange your life around never sweating to avoid reversing any progress you have made.

That is in effect what the one Dr said!

But I’m a food addict!
I love to eat, also from a long line of thrifty Scotts.

Lots of exercises let me burn off the calories, otherwise, I need a new $$$ wardrobe.
So I’m stuck.

Of course, it’s not my fault, but Trump’s.

No doubt about it!
I saw that, on the news.
They would never lie, ever.

Selenium Sulfide

That was recommended by a friend.
I tried it.
The DR. said the over the counter products are NOT effective.

Mometasone Furoate=Clotrimazole

Yes, I had some luck with Clotrimazole, but the Lamisil was more effective.

50 years of experiments...

The Fungus Amongst Us

I wanted to use that line in my post, but was concerned about the ‘STATIC IN THE ATTIC ‘ reply???

Far enough along to let that cat out of the bag...

Yeast is a type of fungi...
Technically yes, but when you have your very own colonies living off your skin...
I think there is a distinction.

But may that is just me?

ALSO body PH may be helpful to kill off or keep it subdued

Now I’m wondering about bath PH?
Thinking of dog dips, and comment #23”body likely preserves colonies “.
I have a nice whirlpool tub for minor aches...
A slight adjustment of the bath water ph???

I’m thinking this is something I’m stuck with but can control.

I LIKE to sweat, and proud of the puddles that build under the rollers and spin bike.
And it feels good too.

You mix it with TTO,some baby oil and a bit of oregano. Then apply with a Q-tip.

Because of its ability to kill parasites and fungal infections, tea tree oil is a great choice to use on nail fungus (onychomycosis), athlete’s foot and ringworm. Put 2–5 drops of undiluted tea tree oil on the affected area using a clean cotton swab. And for stubborn fungi, consider mixing it with natural anti-fungal oil of oregano

If you completely eliminate the damned crud in three years you can lose the weight again.
