On “The Crown”, it showed where Jacque Kennedy insulted the Queen and the Palace. I looked it up and it was true. But the Queen was very kind after Kennedy was killed.

Was it disrespectful of Michelle Obama to not curtsy to the Queen?

In European culture, isn’t it expected of women to curtsy to the Queen? It just struck me as a little odd, especially considering ‘first impressions’ and all...

Best Answer: You are only expected to dip (or bow if you are male) to the Queen if you are a British citizen. I think it would have been good manners for her to do it, but she isn’t under any obligation to do so.

I guess it's a small thing, but it is one of those things that I feel strongly about. Americans don't bow or curtsy to royalty. (I cringe when Prince Harry's wife does it ... when she decides to renounce her American citizenship, she can curtsy all she pleases.)

It's a meeting of equals. If both bow or curtsy simultaneously to each other, fair enough. Otherwise, I'm proud she did exactly right!
