Mmmmm... think it’s very clear I’ve been talking about Mexicans.
Mexicans who vote in Mexico.
And will vote for Mexican anti-American politicans if US is perceived as hurting them by a ‘remittance tax’.
I think that’s a reasonable expectation. And it’s also reasonable to assume that will cost us US taxpayers.
No idea what the ratio is of legal/illegal remittance paymnts. We do have other means of addressing this (E-verify, etc).
I think the advantages of Trump’s method are obvious. The tariff falls upon US manufacturers who use Mexicans, instead of US workers.
And the Mexican poor are not affected.
We have to stop “apprehending” and start preventing entry.
We have to say there is no more asylum.
We have to put people on buses and drop them off in Mexico.
And we have to put the Army on patrol on our own border. We have been protecting other people’s borders for 75 years.
The Dems and the judges will howl—I say let them. Judges can rule and who is going to enforce their rulings.
The drugs and human trafficking alone justify doing these things to protect the country.
Kathy seems more bitter, than merry.
Agree 100%
Yeah.
But is the obhective to get money or to reduce illefal migration?
Trump’s tariffs seem more likely to accomplish the latter.IMO.
Illegal is the problem
I think back 20-30 years ago. We hired migrant families to work our produce fields. One particular family I remember well. The father spoke English and was the translator/boss. His family had helped locals for generations. They came as a family. Their children would attend school until after the pumpkins were picked in the fall and then they would head back to Mexico.
One year the son was a second grader, daughter in fourth grade. These children had always collected any extra papers from their teachers. One year the teacher asked why: Their village did not have a school and the two children were teaching their cousins and friends what they had learned here
To make a long story longer. The teacher asked (since both were very bright) if there was anyway they could stay for an entire year. The father said We (he and wife)had green cards, but what could they do? The teachers husband worked at a bank that had foreclosed on a local restaurant. The man said his wife was a really good cook and always cooked for the other farm workers.
Well to make a long story longer. They ended up opening FIVE restaurants in southern Indiana. Two in our county, one in Scott county and two down near Nikk
The son is a teacher His older sister a doctor. Cousins and aunts and uncles came to work in the restaurant and attended local school and got educated. One sister became a beautician and opened a beauty shop “at home”. ALL except those who are currently running the restaurants have returned to their village which now has electricity, running water AND a school (that the son started).
I know this is long. The point is our small community helped a family. It wasn’t the Federal Government giving millions/billions away to some greedy politician in Mexico. It was a few people in “small town” USA who gave opportunity and support to the family who shared their pews from July — October for generations that made the difference. Dad and mom had green cards just like their parents and their parents did. They made their own opportunity, Those who followed and there were MANY applied legally All people dream but they MUST follow the law. We are a nation on law.
It’s still my favorite restaurant in town. Great authentic Mexican buffet. The family still send their teens to work in the restaurant and get their deplomas from our local high school.
Well, maybe as clear as mud...but, I am glad you finally clarified that, Mr Smith.
Are you seriously claiming that the poor Mexicans along the border may vote for anti-American MEXICAN politicians...and, that may hurt/cost American taxpayers???
Their voting system, just like their entire political system, is crooked as heck...and...our tariff policies will have NO affect on how these ‘poor Mexican voters’ may affect our country one way, or another. Their system is just not set up that way.
LOL...me, too! That certainly seemed to scare her off :-)
Illegal is the problem..
Agree, 100%.
I grew up with similar stories of similar families, in our area.
It was an honor and a privilege for these folks to have temporary work (that paid MUCH more than any wage they could make, full time, back in Mexico) and a chance to improve themselves and their families and become LEGAL and productive citizens.
Such a blessing to witness such stories, first hand.
It’s crooked because we have subsidized the crooked politicians and allowed if not encouraged the cartels which back them. The people are at the mercy of both!
It may be the same family. They are large Yuge even
.
Yes. Hand up not out. Home Depot does not hire any Mexican (legal or illegal ) but hired a cleaning service that did. Mostly young men.
They would work to buy a reliable car, electric and plumbing fixtures for the houses they were building back home and learn English so they could secure a better paying job in Mexico! All headed back home where their sweethearts were waiting to enjoy a much better standard of living than their “cousins”.
