I came home from the Derby Party sick!! Emotionally sick!! Went straight to sleep. My love of horse racing has really taken a step back because of humans ruining the sport.
The best horse lost because of stewards making a horrible call. I feel so sorry for the best horse in the race along with the owner, trainer and jockey...but I can't leave out the racing fans. In a race of that many horses bumps will happen. The track was sloppy with holes from all the rain. Then you have over 150,000 people screaming....and let me tell you personally....the noise of the crowd is like a huge firework that last 2 minutes..and builds especially when the horses make the final turn in the stretch.
I heard the jockey talk to the steward and the stewards need to consider the track, noise, horses bumping taking bad steps will be part of the race. The two jockeys that filled the claim weren't even involved. AND the winner also had bumps early in the race.
Sadly, they made a big mistake and it will cost horse racing. The race was for the best...and this Derby was a bust.
The stewards really did a disservice to Mott giving him his first Derby winner unearned. NEVER has a Derby crowd Booed a winner!!
