Notre Dame's three medieval stained-glass windows all survived last night's devastating fire, the Archbishop of Paris has said, as detectives probe the renovation work which may have led to the blaze.
The first daylight pictures inside the wreckage of the Paris landmark today showed the roof destroyed, the 850-year-old church exposed to the elements and the floor covered in charred debris.
However the three 'irreplaceable' Rose Windows, which date to the 13th century and were last night feared to have melted or exploded, are all still believed to be intact.
Attention has now turned to what may have caused Notre Dame, part of which was being restored in a 150million refurbishment, to fall victim to such a disaster.

Wow, surprising and good news.
Interesting trivia
The old glass of Notre Dame is thicker on the bottom than on the top because of the liquid properties of glass with the atoms moving so slowly...
I was there in the nineties. It was magnificent cathedral.
Glass is basically a really thick liquid.
So in a way, the windows are “bubbles”. In theory, left long enough, a window would break as the glass settles on the bottom of the pain.
I wish I could see pictures of them now, rather than take someone’s word for it that they survived.
Glad so many of the relics survived and that the inside looks like it may even be able to be restored somehow. From those overhead shots yesterday it looked like a complete loss.
Looking forward to the restoration. I wonder if they will hire the brilliant guys who did the recent renovation? /s
What caused the fire? Let’s just say the French would not be able to handle an inconvenient truth. The public will never learn the real cause if it is not consistent with the ongoing politically correct narrative.
What caused the fire you asked.
I noticed that the news of the woman was trying to bomb Notre Dame cathedral in 2016 and was sentenced to eight years in prison on Friday has disappeared from the news.
The two co-conspirators have not yet been sentenced as I understand it.
All three women are Muslims.
Caption This.
Even if French investigators found that one of the construction workers was an ardent, deranged, radical Islamist, admitted that he set an incendiary device, had the materials in his home, confessed and wanted recognition as the jihadist who destroyed Notre Dame, the French would cover up the very inconvenient truth. It would not go well with the prevailing politically correct narrative.
When you commit cultural suicide, the icons of your civilization tend to disappear.
It’s even being denied here in the good old USA.
I have seen pictures from after the fire, and the window shown above IS intact. The others are more difficult to asses, Their frames are intact, the glass in several appears to be gone.
The NYPost had some pictures taken after the fire was extinguished.
