A "life hack" phrase that describe any hacks, tips and tricks that get things done quickly by automating, increase productivity and organizing (formerly called a "good ideas."
Examples: putting soap and water in a blender and turn it on to clean it. Heating a cup of water in the microwave to loosen the food. Using a shoe as a cupholder. (Millions of things you can do with duct tape).
I believe the older generation probably had many of these, particularly for home remedies.
Which "life hacks" can you recommend?
You can’t do that with a dull knife; it HAS to be sharp, real sharp. Boy, it gives me the willies! I probably shouldn’t have posted it because you know somebody here is going to want to try it. I should’ve put it on dummiesunderground instead, lol!
most labels on containers use a thermal glue, and gentle heating with a hair dryer or heat gun will greatly aid in removing the labels ... got to be REAL careful with PET containers though, as it’s really easy to overheat them, which causes them shrink up in odd shapes.
overheating also can cause much of the glue to remain behind on the container instead of remaining with the label ... I use these containers for storing all kinds of stuff in, ranging from screws and nails in the shop to storing ice melt pellets for scattering on icy sidewalks ..
another good use of a heat gun or hair dryer is to heat those cardboard and foil inner seals on coconut oil and nut butter containers so you can remove the seals intact without leaving a ring of foil on the lip of the jar, so that you can then gently microwave the coconut oil jars to liquefy the oil for pouring into another container, or gently heating the nut butter to make it easy to stir the oil on top before refrigerating to keep the oil from separating again ...
For boiled eggs that peel easy:
Start them in boiling water, not cold.
Some of my knives are definitely too sharp to try that. I might could do it with a duller knife. He’s probably built up some skin on those fingers which helps protect them.
Very impressive. I have a spinner thing and it shreds onions surprisingly well. I’m using something different but it did a great job. You had to slice the onion into quarters, first, though.
They also make a protective glove that will shield your hands. If you were in a kitchen, a pair of those would be real handy. There, you’d just put it on the left hand for protection.
Don't chew your fingernails.
I bought a pair for a friend of mine who kept cutting himself. I think he opted instead to stop doing dangerous things with knives, rather than use my gloves, lol.
Ooh thanks for that link. I bookmarked it. One of these days I’ll order some of those. Thanks!
Fritos make excelke t fire starters; or take dryer lint, put it into each cell of an egg carton, and pour paraffin into the cell.
Not getting that one at all. I'll just take your word for it.
Thank you! Bane of my breakfast!
Not to get dramatic but it’s a game changer. Starting them in boiling water causes the membrane to stick to the shell rather than to the egg itself. The result is eggs that slide out of the shell with minimal coaxing. Great for boiled eggs, deviled eggs etc.
I am gonna have to practice that. I wasnt using my left hand for anything today.
When I read that I thought you were replying to post #150. 🤣
Just do the opposite of everything that you normally do.
You might just land a job with the Yankees!
I have one of those for when I do my wood carving. 16 stitches across my palm cured me of knife play without protection.
