(VOA NEWS)..... And following this tweet @TheJusticeDept has announced it's charging @MichaelAvenatti with trying to extort more than $20 million from @Nike.Steve Herman added,

Tmrw at 11 am ET, we will be holding a press conference to disclose a major high school/college basketball scandal perpetrated by @Nike that we have uncovered. This criminal conduct reaches the highest levels of Nike and involves some of the biggest names in college basketball.

A news conference by prosecutors about this indictment of @MichaelAvenatti scheduled to be held in about 90 minutes.

According to the indictment, @Avenatti allegedly tried "to use his ability to garner publicity to inflict substantial financial and reputational harm on the company if his demands were not met."

Media reports say @MichaelAvenatti has been arrested in connection with the indictment.

US attorney says arrest of @MichaelAvenatti on criminal bank fraud and wire fraud charges in Los Angeles is separate from the criminal case against him in New York related to @Nike
