HONOLULU Shipping delays between Hawaii and the mainland have left some grocery store shelves empty on Oahu, officials said. Officials with Honolulu-based Matson Inc. confirmed Tuesday that deliveries have fallen behind schedule because of a combination of bad weather and mechanical problems on ships, Hawaii News Now reported

You can’t get milk in Hawaii because dairies have basically been declared environmentally hazardous, so virtually all Hawaii’s milk has to be imported. Thus milk costs $8-10 per gallon.

The young people here probably won’t believe this but back in the early 70’s produce was still a seasonal item in the grocery stores.
There was no such thing as fresh berries, squash, avocados, pears, etc.

I always pick wild raspberries in the last week of July. They’re much tastier than the store bought berries you can get all year long. As for being around in the early 70’s, I wasn’t born until between Three mile island, and the Iranian hostage crisis.
