I thought about that but I left that atlas shrugged thread because it just got too deep for me. I just wanted to enjoy reading, not having to take notes or anything like that. Just compare the book to today. Now if you want to do it deeper than that, that’s fine.

I’m really having bad eye issues and this is just getting too complicated now. I have a constant headache and I don’t want to think too much. Does someone else want to instigate this reading of 1984?

Actually when he declares it a National Emergency the rules change they are now protecting the USA from an invading force.

That makes sense. I'm sure a lot of rules change once that happens.

From that article: “Actually when he declares it a National Emergency the rules change they are now protecting the USA from an invading force.”

These people are always “worried” or “concerned” about something. They were worried about Whitaker, but I haven’t seen any difference between Sessions and Whitaker.

Thanks...no it hasn't been posted....FROM ARTICLE...However, at the last minute Democrats objected, citing concerns over his potential handling of the special counsel investigation. Many Democrat lawmakers on Capitol Hill are still worried about whether Barr would recuse himself from the Russia investigation among other topics of concern.

You’re right, but that’s because it’s considered a law enforcement issue. My question is, when thousands of foreigners are invading, some bringing drugs and crime, all of them overwhelming our systems, does it change from being a mere law enforcement issue and become a national security issue?

My post didn’t make sense - I actually meant to copy the part NIKK posted below. I must have cut from the wrong post.

Sorry about that.

How long can they delay the vote. They are outnumbered. Will see what kind of balls Linsey has!!!!!

Just note it also could delay any work on replacing Ruth if delayed very long.

Yes... NEA Section 201 authorizes the president to declare a national emergency. ... Under NEA Section 301, statutory emergency authorities enabled by the national emergency declaration cannot be exercised until the president specifies the provisions of law under which the president or other officials will act.

The Constitution explicitly assigns the president the power to sign or veto legislation, command the armed forces, ask for the written opinion of their Cabinet, convene or adjourn Congress, grant reprieves and pardons, and receive ambassadors.

***************************************

He admitted that the Constitution did not specifically grant the president the power to seize private property. Nevertheless, Perlman maintained the president could legally do this in a national emergency under his executive power and powers as commander in chief of the military.

Powers of the President... ...........Serve as commander in chief of the armed forces

Commission officers of the armed forces

Grant reprieves and pardons for federal offenses (except impeachment)

Convene Congress in special sessions

Receive ambassadors

Take care that the laws be faithfully executed

Wield the "executive power"

Appoint officials to lesser offices

"I thought about that but I left that atlas shrugged thread because it just got too deep for me."

I think Atlas Shrugged was to deep for a lot of people. Me included.

It appears to me since I have NEVER read 1984 they are predictions that we can discuss if happened or not and under what circumstances. I think totally different from Atlas Shrugged.

Delayed for a week — after the SoU.
They know something. Was Barr planning on closing the SC when he’s sworn in? Hopefully RBG will pass and the SoU will be delayed a week.

It doesn’t matter to me but I agree about not wanting to annoy anyone on this thread.

Also, there could be other FReepers who will want to join us and so another thread would work better for that.

Also again :-), it will be easier to keep up with 1984 comments if it has its own thread.

Finally!!!, it might be best to begin a new thread soon with an announcement so that anyone on FR who isn’t on our TFT thread will be aware and have time to get a book.

Bill Mitchell...Huber is either the biggest bust and fraud in DOJ history, or what he is doing is so huge in it's ability to destroy #DeepState, giving the impression he is doing nothing is essential.

One day, hopefully soon, we'll all know the answer. Either huge win or colossal fail.

Huber is silent. The DOJ is silent on Huber.

This is EXTRAORDINARY. Is the DOJ silent on Huber because Congress leaks like a sieve and Huber's targets would go silent? Or is he doing NOTHING?

Since those with that much power never do nothing, I tend to lean towards the first.

Sorry ladies, I don’t think I thought this through very well. I just wanted to read 1984 again and thought it would be fun to read with friends, since some of you also said you wanted to read it.

It could end up taking over this thread more than others here would like, if they are here just to talk about Trump or current events. I suppose it just depends how much into it we get.

On the other hand, creating a separate thread for it would give it more significance than I’m willing to put into it. Other freepers might be expecting something at the level of the Atlas Shrugged thread, which after all created a book! I don’t have any literary abilities and I’m just happy if I can get a complete sentence out without naughty words in it.

But if someone else wants to create a separate thread I will definitely join in.

So my new idea is, perhaps we could pick one day a week to discuss the last chapter we read. Or for someone to discuss wherever they’re at in the book, I hate to put deadlines on things so that people have to keep up and then feel like if they miss a week they have to stop reading.
