We have seen a growing list of senior officials at the FBI and DOJ being fired or leaving in disgrace. Now, The New York Times informs us that the FBI began an investigation in May 2017 to look at whether President Donald Trump was a spy for the Russians. The accusation naturally lacked any evidence to support it, and so it does seem a safe bet that it was purely political and another stain on the FBI and DOJ.
Kit, I was five when Kennedy was shot. I’m the very tail end of the baby boom, so I viewed the Boomers much as you did while I was growing up. I was a kindergartener watching the world go insane.

Tonight and tomorrow are going to be just BRUTAL; the coldest we’ve had since 1996! We HAD to travel today; I was never so glad to be back home!
Right now it’s -11 with awful winds out of the west, wind chill is at -41! Eeek! The d@mn Beagle went out - and wouldn’t come back in, the dumb@ss, LOL! (He’s in now and is OK; frosty paws and face. He was out for over 15 minutes, which is enough to hurt you!)
My indoor/outdoor cats are crawling the walls and trying to KILL each other.
Barn chores have been BRUTAL - and we only have hunting dogs and a mule, LOL! (Dogs are out of the wind and each have a Doggy Condo filled with straw; the mule is in the barn.) Our Dairy Neighbors are in for a ‘fun’ few days. :(
And then? Nearly 40 degrees by the weekend! That’s, ‘Snowshoeing in Shorts’ weather! ;)
I learned a long time ago - during Clinton impeachment, that whatever the LSM was reporting was a distraction from the real news.
Every time the impeachment coverage got heated, I knew I needed to look elsewhere, so I’d read foreign news papers to see what our LSM was ignoring. Sell out to China was one biggie.
Since she is a Government employee, if she is dead her family is obliged to report her death to the Office of Personnel Management ("OPM") as well as to the Social Security Administration. You should not be receiving government checks if you are dead although it does not stop some people! If she is dead then OPM should be notified so that they can address any life insurance due her beneficiaries or estate. Note that to do any of these things there would have to be a Death Certificate, which could be issued by a Physician or Coroner of the county in which she died. Not every one supports her. With Nurses and doctors at the hospital and mortician word would get out.
I think she could spend a long time sick and her clerks would do her work, but I do not think that they could hide her death for long.
An Attorney would be better able to answer the question of whether a lawyer/litigant could question the absence of a SC Justice who missed Oral Arguments.
This coming May 18, my wife and I will be happily married for 30 years, as we celebrate 45 years of marriage.
