Todays Cryptogram
XKS HGWHTCQXGFL FZ HFLZGESLHS
GJ VSXXSW XKQL XKS HGWHTCQXGFL
FZ YFLSO. NQYSJ YQEGJFL
You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications, unfortunately they are copyrighted so we can't use them here. So, we're just going to make up our own.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter.
For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram)
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
Send me a private reply if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
Solving the puzzle under 8 minutes is good, under 6 very good, under 4 excellent and under two "you're a pro!"
Those of you looking for an added challenge can try to solve one sentence at a time, i.e. solve the entire first line, then go to the second line etc.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
Its easier to work on the puzzle without having to use your pencil.
Solution to our last puzzle:
AS GOVERNMENT EXPANDS, LIBERTY CONTRACTS. RONALD REAGAN
A nice easy one today. 90 secs.
Glad you liked it...
4 min.
Good job! I think you people are just getting too good at these.
Luck. I always assume a beginning or repeated 3-letter word is “THE”. It’s bit me a couple of times, there was one with GOD and GOD’s which was very difficult.
Got it; two minutes. This one was easy. I didn’t get that short one yesterday. I figured the shorties would be easier but they aren’t.
Good point. That gives 2 frequently used letters. I also look for that little 2-letter word within the first few words of a cryptogram that is just after the noun and usually “is”.
Yesterday was tough. Shorter ones are tougher. The only clue was in the author, where the first letter of the first and last name are the same, making you think of Ronald Reagan.
3:55
The longer ones have more one, two, and three letter words that are easy to figure out. Once I go as far as I can with that I start going through the alphabet by inserting letters I haven’t used yet. When I do that and create a real word it’s easy from there. It doesn’t work with the short crypto’s.

Sighs. And *this* is how I tie myself up in knots.
Got it in 2.
4 after 2 straight skunnks......
3 minutes, without pencil. Go for common words, common word endings, and authors name. Avoid writing down letters unless you are certain.
A little over 4 minutes.
The two ‘the’ s helped
3 minutes.
Nice to have an easy one after yesterday’s stinker.
I guessed correctly on government, which gave me Reagan, and it was off to the races. Sometimes you get lucky.
