Serious question, what 85 year olds do you know?

Posted on 01/14/2019 9:52:26 AM PST by MNDude

It seems that the fake news keeps telling us that RBG is just fine and is able to do what her job requires of her. I'm curious, how many of you know 85 year old who would be capable of doing the job of listening to Legal arguments and going through legal documents?

My grandma was very healthy and active at age 85, although I still cannot imagine her doing that job.

But not only is she super old, she has just allegedly gone through broken ribs and lung cancer removal. I cannot think of many 30 year olds that could come back to work quickly after that.

I know there are a lot of senior citizens here, so your Insight will be a lot better than mine. What are your thoughts of having this 85 year old woman on the bench?

Just like all congress critters, high ranking bureaucrats and rank and file lawyers, justices have an abundance of “assistants” and staff to do the actual work.

I knew a guy who was very cogent and worked up till 93 as an attorney. He was hard of hearing and talked slowly, so many people didn’t pay attention to him. But if you took the time to listen, or read his writing, he was totally cogent.

I saw a relatively recent (last year or two) interview with Ginsburg, and found her to be totally clear-headed and well spoken (although spouting Left wing stuff).

Even though her mental faculties were intact then, every surgery puts them at risk.

I really think her physical health is really the issue with her though. I suspect that her pancreatic cancer is back and spreading (stage IV). Pancreatic cancer typically spreads to the lungs and liver. The fact that she never smoked, and that two lung tumors developed simultaneously, makes it unlikely that the cancer started in her lungs.

The median survival rate for stage 4 pancreatic cancer is between two and six months. Though the disease cannot be cured at this stage, treatment may improve quality of life.

Older people are as likely to respond well to treatment as younger ones, though life expectancy among older people with stage 4 pancreatic cancer is shorter.

Recovery just from the trauma of the surgery would be expected in about six weeks. After this week, the Supreme Court is out until 19 February. Is she doesn’t come back then, it will strongly indicate that she is never coming back.

I know 2 who are both still riding their horses. One competes almost every weekend all summer long & she is a chronic winner.

Chris Karamesines still drives a TOP FUEL dragster & he is 85 or 86. He passes the annual physical with better scores than the younger drivers. Nickname is ‘The Golden Greek’.

Sure would be fun to see Eastwood on the Supreme Court. You do NOT have to be a lawyer to be on the Supreme Court, BTW.

My last remaining bookkeeping client is almost 81 & he is still running his company—which started in 1945 with his Dad.

I have done his bookkeeping for over 49 years, and I am 79.

I'd like to see RBG skydive.

Yeah, without a parachute!

(Hey, it's been done with the skydiver surviving...)

I haven’t read the whole thread so she may have been mentioned, but Queen Elizabeth II is 92 and still going strong and appears to be quite physically able when out in public.

My dad is what...85...might be 86...

His mind is extremely sharp. He is so sharp that he now has his 58 year old wife do the driving after the sun goes down. He didn’t want to risk hurting anyone, let alone, himself.

People may joke about that... I’m happy he’s there enough to be able to leave the keys on the table at night. Tells me he’ll have no problem giving them up, altogether.

He believes RBG needs to be off the SCOTUS and ASAP.

LOL

Though I posted a ping earlier, it caused me to recall what my beloved told me this morning.

He said he had the ‘weirdest dream,’ that both Justices Ginsburg and Sotomayor passed away with a week of each other from natural causes.

I asked him if he had a timeframe. He just rolled his eyes at my question. LOL

“My mom is 85, there is no way you would even treat cancer with surgery at that age, infection will take them out, especially lungs, I think we are being lied to!”

I get where you coming from, big bad Easter bunny. However, your mom isn’t on the bench making decisions for all the Democrats. LOL They’ll do everything short of a brain transplant to keep the gal going.

I do believe, however, that even comatose, she’ll be able to make decisions/rulings with the aide of her staff. Dagnabbit.

“She used to but she probably felt bad about shaming the young journalists who could barely keep up with her. “

I laughed myself silly reading that article! Amazing, isn’t it, how someone believing himself to be an honest journalist will degrade himself to make her look good!

The woman cannot stay awake and he tried to tell the world she was nothing short of a Superwoman at her age!

“No cameras allowed in the SCOTUS. Tradition...................”

Merciful Maude. Let us hope that cameras are NEVER allowed into that particular courtroom. Could you even begin to imagine the grandstanding those Democrat Justices would do??

That would be a true nightmare.

My dad passed last year at 87, but he was sharp as a tack until the very end.

His dad, on the other hand, lost much of his mental acuity around age 82, due to dementia.

What really matters are your core beliefs. RBG is a leftist and will remain one until she draws her last breath.
