This could be a sign that the poles are going to switch in the next 100 years or sooner. This apparently happens every few hundred thousand years or so. It could cause some issues worse than just our compasses being screwed up for up to a couple hundred years.

pehaps that large ball of iron rotating and moving through the sun's fields creates our magnetic field, and the poles of it.

The earth is rotaing and moving through the sun's field continuously, and the sun's field may change, depending on who knows what, thus the earth's fields are affected.

It’s made sudden switches, positive north to negative south, and vice versa, many time in geologic history. I learned this back in the 70’s. The level of profound ignorance displayed in today’s media (or more likely intentional panic mongering) and among even the “scientific” press is truly astounding and depressing.

So let me get this straight. Scientists recognize the shifts in the magnetic poles of a dynamic planet but don’t recognize the dynamic shifts in earth’s weather patterns, insisting that any shifts in averages of temperature, rainfall etc. are obviously due to man’s impact and dire changes are necessary.
