President Trump exited the White House at 9:24am and made a brief statement before taking some questions.

“The jobs numbers were beyond anyone’s expectations.”
He says he was going to camp David to discuss China trade deal

“We have to build the wall or we have to build a barrier.”
Said steel instead of concrete is fine.
“It’s a very important battle to win” on the shutdown.
“This wall will pay for itself many times over the course of this year... Most importantly it’s about safety.”
“You think I like doing this? I don’t like doing this.”

Said many of the government workers not getting paychecks “agree 100 percent with what I’m doing”
“I may decide a national emergency depending on what happens over the next few days.”
“I have tremendous support within the Republican Party.”
“Human trafficking is a big deal.”
“Everybody’s playing games but I’ll tell you this, I think the Democrats want to make a deal.”
“This shutdown could end tomorrow or it also could go on for a long time.”

“Iran hates ISIS more than we do if that’s possible. Russia hates ISIS more than we do. Turkey hates ISIS, maybe not as much as we do. But these are countries that hate ISIS.” Says they can do the fighting themselves.

Q: How long until troop pullout from Syria?
Trump: “It’s going quickly.”

On appointing cabinet secretaries/acting secretaries (I couldn’t hear question): “I’m in no hurry, I have acting, and my actings are doing really great. David is doing really great ...I sort of like acting. It gives me more flexibility, do you understand that?”

“Schumer and Nancy Pelosi and myself could solve this in 20 minutes if they want to. If they don’t want to it’s going to go on for a long time.”
