Believe it or not, all these faces are fake. They have been synthesized by Nvidia’s new AI algorithm, a generative adversarial network capable of automagically creating humans, cats, and even cars.
The technology works so well that we can expect synthetic image search engines soon — just like Google’s, but generating new fake images on the fly that look real. Yes, you know where that is going — and sure, it can be a lot of fun, but also scary. Check out the video. It truly defies belief:
According to Nvidia, its GAN is built around a concept called “style transfer.” Rather than trying to copy and paste elements of different faces into a frankenperson, the system analyzes three basic styles — coarse, middle, and fine styles — and merges them transparently into something completely new.
Coarse styles include parameters such as pose, the face’s shape, or the hair style. Middle styles include facial features, like the shape of the nose, cheeks, or mouth. Finally, fine styles affect the color of the face’s features like skin and hair.
According to the scientists, the generator is “capable of separating inconsequential variation from high-level attributes” too, in order to eliminate noise that is irrelevant for the new synthetic face.
For example, it can distinguish a hairdo from the actual hair, eliminating the former while applying the latter to the final photo. It can also specify the strength of how styles are applied to obtain more or less subtle effects.

Mom, dressed one of her farmer male partners' best holey Goodwill clothes and the children with their designer trash-clothes will stroll the toney streets munching synthetic non-GMO hotdogs and non-melting snowcones in flavors never savored in colors never seen before.
They will all have mental breakdowns on a regular basis due to their personality randomness.
I was thinking of something like George Washington playing golf on the moon. How about a picture of a beautiful Michelle Obama kissing your a**?
Get ready for the video of Brent Kavanaugh dancing naked on a bed with a 6-year-old boy on a ladder peeing on him in a hotel in Finland at the same time he is sitting on the bench in the SCOTUS.
CNN fake people will not register amazement at Brent's ability to be two places at once as they demand he be impeached.

I've wondered going forward how this will change reporting and historical research.
We have a lot of video from the past to help confirm/deny events.
With this all of that could be changed...imagine a future presidential candidate is accused of inappropriate actions and a "video" of the tryst shows up. A person is gonna have to have a bona fide iron clad way to deny they were there.
Lots of possibilities.

I write books. I have some novels that are being based around a similar concept (people generated in Blender). I got tired of paying models and ghost writers, so this saves a lot of money and a ton of frustration. Plus, the characters don’t get old.
It’s impressive, but still copy and paste.
This will revolutionize the porn industry. And the cat picture industry. The two drivers of technology.

Actually, fake images cannot make the "mind real". I reely mean that.
“I’ll take the Marylin Monroe look-alike.”
So a computer can come up with a Marilyn Monroe - big deal; when AI comes up with Marilyn Manson, then I’ll be impressed - computer programs can imitate the ordinary, it takes people to come up with the truly weird.
