The Air Force is mapping a two-fold future path for its B-1 bomber which includes plans to upgrade the bomber
Warrior Maven Video Report: How long will the B-1 Bomber remain in service? Will it retire when the B-21 arrives?
The Air Force is mapping a two-fold future path for its B-1 bomber which includes plans to upgrade the bomber while simultaneously preparing the aircraft for eventual retirement as the service's new stealth bomber arrives in coming years.
These two trajectories, which appear as somewhat of a paradox or contradiction, are actually interwoven efforts designed to both maximize the bombers firepower while easing an eventual transition to the emerging B-21 bomber, Air Force officials told Warrior Maven.

What are the chances the dem controlled house will fully support 100% funding for The Wall?
But that’s another 2 years wasted waiting for 2020 and hoping and praying Dems don’t STEAL that election as well.
B2 Spirits.....sigh...first post of the AM.
3 things:
1) Democrats/liberals
2) Unions,
3) Lawyers.
As I understand it, the B1 was originally designed as a nuclear bomber, but has been used through modifications as a non-nuc bomber in the conventional wars we have been fighting.
The B-1B was designed and fielded as a nuclear delivery system. Around 1991/92 the AF started to experiment with conventional weapons loads and subsequently the B-1B was decertified for use with nuclear weapons and relegated to only conventional weapons use.
Nah, I don’t buy that... Unions were far more powerful in the 40s and 50s and even 60s, and the Military built tons of great weaponry en masse.
Simple Congress.......thats the answer
No, congress appropriates the money, doesn’t build the planes...
Looks like they are planning to buy 100-150 of the b21s with a rough 10-12 year widow.. So that’s a vast improvement over the b1 and b2s... but still nowhere near what we were cranking out in the 50s and 60s. Yes I know they are fare more complicated, but still... its not like the B52’s weren’t cutting edge for their time as well
B-52H:
Payload - 70,000 pounds
Speed - 650 mph (Mach 0.84)
Inventory (2013) 78
B-2
Payload - 40,000 pounds
Speed - 630 mph (Mach 0.95)
Inventory (2014) 19
B-1B:
Payload - 75,000 pounds (125,000 w/ externals)
Speed 900+ mph (Mach 1.2)
Inventory (2012) 66
The B-1.
The B-21.
IIRC older models B52s carried MUCH more than this over Vietnam. We basically flew the wings off those models. The base design was modified differently than the models we’ve kept.
Total stupidity! The type that can result in national suicide.
The B-1B is the most capable bomber in the world today. And they are nowhere near worn out.
I cannot imagine a decomm of all of them.
My understanding is that about a third of the payload was replaced with targeting and other systems.
“If this country elects a Democrat as POTUS in two years, look for a return to the Obama days, with defense being absolutely gutted.”
Single payer is going to turn our military into that of Germany. And they do have the House, very important for budget and spending...so we aren’t even entirely safe now.
Horse Hockey!
Trump will compel the D’s to support the military or they will loose their house seats in 2020.
See my tag line...
i thought it got it’s nuts cut due to the arms treaties
Armament
Hardpoints: 6 external hardpoints for 50,000 pounds (23,000 kg) of ordnance (use for weapons restricted by arms treaties[105][193]) and 3 internal bomb bays for 75,000 pounds (34,000 kg) of ordnance.[194]
