The UK's last remaining feudal village complete with 17 traditional red brick farms, 10 cottages, a pub and even the title of lord of the manor is up for sale for £7million. Laxton in Nottinghamshire is an 1,845-acre heritage estate which dates back to 1066 when the manor was granted to Geoffrey Alselin by William the Conqueror. In 1981 the Crown Estate purchased Laxton to try and maintain the open field strip farming system and the village is now the only place left in the country to farm in this way, reports the Guardian.

That’s prima nocta, the taking of a newlywed man’s wife, on their wedding night, for sexual pleasures that were exercised by nobles.
That’s actually not a lot of money for all that (in relative terms). It would cost more for a townhouse in Manhattan - without the 1846 acres and the rest.
Have you seen English females lately?
Also, “The average age of a Laxton resident is 65,” according to the article.

Now that is a great idea.
How much for the serfs? What about the women and children? Thanks for the line John, RIP.
Remington Steele found that out in the last season.
I’ve seen a few documentaries about those big estates. Quite the price tag. I’d rather visit.
What a dream of a conservative village.
A church,a pub, a court.
Beautiful buildings
Lovely land.
what a place to raise kids.
“I’d rather visit.”
I agree. Also, you’re often not allowed to make changes, so forget about modernizing the plumbing, for example.

You’re not actually going to OWN it. You’ll just be paying a princely sum for being a subject of the crown.
Another reason just to visit.
I like modern plumbing, electricity, and the rest too much.
The article says the average age of residents is 65, so maybe it’s not a great place to raise kids.
About 15 years ago, I tried to get my husband to move to Missouri to my father’s farm. “The kids could grow their own food! We could raise goats!” But he wanted to living in the 20th century ...
