Gov. Jerry Brown on Sunday signed a bill making California the first state to require public companies to have at least one woman on their board of directors to advance gender equality and help break the corporate glass ceiling.
The bill, SB 826, by Sens. Hannah-Beth Jackson, D-Santa Barbara, and Toni Atkins, D-San Diego, was designed to combat bias against experienced, qualified female employees in the workplace.
Yet another glass ceiling is shattered, and women will finally have a seat at the table in corporate board rooms, Jackson said Sunday on Twitter as she thanked the governor for signing the bill. Corporations will be more profitable. This is a giant step forward for women, our businesses and our economy.
In a rare move, Brown included a message with the bills signing.
There have been numerous objections to this bill and serious legal concerns have been raised, the governor said in a letter to the state Senate, a copy of which he sent to the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary. I dont minimize the potential flaws that indeed may prove fatal to its ultimate implementation. Nevertheless, recent events in Washington, D.C. and beyond make it crystal clear that many are not getting the message.
Brown went on to say that corporations have been considered persons for a long time even before women were allowed to vote.

Fascism on the march
Next, they will require someone of African descent on all public corporation boards. Then, require a Hispanic. Then, require an Asian. Then, outlaw any white man from serving on a corporate board. Don’t say it can’t happen. It’s Kookifornia, where Marxism is in the water.
Most corporations are chartered in Delaware. Because historically, DE had good laws for corporate governance - and, now that the attractiveness of those laws has money (spelled $$$) coming into DE, Delaware has seen the light and has retained those laws and the good courts which enforce them.Consequently when CA assays to regulate Delaware corporations, this CA law instantly becomes a federal issue. And maybe not so much of an actual law at all.
LOL, I like the way you think!
Seriously...why would any company want to do business in California, and why would those already there not want to relocate?
Insanity. I feel for all the conservatives stuck there behind enemy lines...
It mirrors the idiocy of “diversity” at all levels.
There is one kind of diversity that counts...the diversity of thought.
All the arguments for diversity of color, gender, culture, you name it, are just Leftist crap.
I’m a woman. I consider myself a feminist. Which, to my mind, means that I want an equal opportunity to try, to take my best shot, to make my case. To EARN my spot. NOT have it handed to me on a freaking platter inspite of everything I did to merit it.
Aaaaaargh.
Dang, now I’m cheesed again.
Exactly. Hire a man who says he identifies as a woman. :D
What about all of the other 71 genders?
They just get left out in the cold?
Which Woman do women have to sleep with to get the job ?
Sexist legislation where the only qualification to be on the board is to be a woman,
How come the ACLU is not against this?
Fascism. The state is selecting the composition of corporate boards to achieve goals of the state. Mussolini would approve.
“So all a corporation needs to do is get a male board member to say hes a woman.”
This is totally, 100% true and real. I’ve witnessed it. It’s illegal to argue that they aren’t.
YES! Kavanaugh can help the Supreme Court strike this down. Just saw IMS’s Christine Largarde’s interview on Firing Line on PBS last night. She was pushing quotas, something she opposed for years. It’s always the same reasoning with Communists and their sympathizers. “It would take too long” for corporations to voluntarily raise the share of women on their boards to 50%. “Later we can get rid of the quotas,” she says. We know that will never happen.
All corporations have to do is stop having “boards”.
Fascism = state control of private capital.
If a board is made up all women, does that make it a broad...? 🤔
Is this even legal? As in constitutional?
More reason for California companies to move to Texas or any other state that wants their business.
And this is also another example of the wisdom in the Bible that says you take these deviants and put them to death or else they’ll destroy everything good around them.
of course not but it’s california where you have to capture cow farts so they don’t create global warming. You do now that before cars and th industrial revolution when there was warming, it was case by dinosaur farts and then cow farts took over.
