The Kavanaugh hearings are a mockery of a show trial. This type of hearing serves no legitimate purpose and makes future qualified candidates LESS likely to accept nominations. It is counterproductive in a big way. As Rush stated today, hearings are not required, and historically, affidavits were sufficient instead of hearings. Trump may have to fill two to four more vacancies, and he will seek to avoid the current farce.

Prediction #2: Since Supreme Court nominations are thoroughly politicized, the nominees will become nothing more than bearers of political messages. It's only a matter of time before someone who isn't even a lawyer is nominated for the Supreme Court.

And you can’t stop claims of sexual misconduct from going to the press first. So I see this as being an unavoidable circus.

Closed hearings and a shorter confirmation process wont stop what has happened. It will just cause it to occur quicker. They were sitting on a lot of this stuff since August.

I could certainly see every President putting a “Plan B” process in place in the event a Senate confirmation battle turns into a circus. Like: “If this nomination isn’t acted upon within 60 days, I’ll put Kanye West on the Supreme Court as a temporary recess appointment.”
Yes, I think they should be dropped. Won’t happen, but still, just let the nominee present themselves, maybe the ranking members get a few minutes each for Q&A, then vote.
What would you have them do?
You can’t throttle the press.
