A molecule produced during fasting or calorie restriction has anti-aging effects on the vascular system, which could reduce the occurrence and severity of human diseases related to blood vessels, such as cardiovascular disease, according to a study led by Georgia State University.
"As people become older, they are more susceptible to disease, like cancer, cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer's disease," said Dr. Ming-Hui Zou, senior author of the study, director of the Center for Molecular and Translational Medicine at Georgia State and a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar in Molecular Medicine. "Age is the most important so-called risk factor for human disease. How to actually delay aging is a major pathway to reducing the incident and severity of human disease.
"The most important part of aging is vascular aging. When people become older, the vessels that supply different organs are the most sensitive and more subject to aging damage, so studying vascular aging is very important. This study is focused on vascular aging, and in old age, what kind of changes happen and how to prevent vascular aging."
In this study, the research team explores the link between calorie restriction (eating less or fasting) and delaying aging, which is unknown and has been poorly studied. The findings are published in the journal Molecular Cell.

"The researchers identified an important, small molecule that is produced during fasting or calorie restriction conditions. The molecule, β-Hydroxybutyrate, is one type of a ketone body, or a water-soluble molecule that contains a ketone group and is produced by the liver from fatty acids during periods of low food intake, carbohydrate restrictive diets, starvation and prolonged intense exercise."
Low carb'ing I'm down 28 pounds since early April. Jeans size went from 42 to 38. Blood work showed pre-diabetes and fatty liver. My fasting blood sugar was 117, and AST reading was 49. I had just started keto, so it showed ketones at 1.0. :)
I have a keto-mojo meter and measure ketones at least once a day. Reading 1.4 at the moment.
I have stalled out at 205 lbs, so now I'm doing one meal a day, carnivore. Eating fatty tri tip, chicken thighs, 80/20 ground beef, etc. I picked up a tray of thin sliced rib steaks at Costco, they are pretty good.
God speed. I’m down from 220 to to 210 with a slimfast for lunch smoothie and eating whatever I want rest of the time. Started in April.
It’s a bitch losing weight. Good luck.
I read a book Fat for Fuel, by Dr. Mercola. I believe this was mentioned. He discusses Fasting in the book. (Yes..he is thin!) Its a good book. This is a good place to post it.

“Story at a glance”
“More than half of all Americans struggle with chronic illness, and 1 in 5 deaths in the U.S. is obesity-related. This is a direct result of eating far too much sugar and grains, too much protein and far too little healthy fat”
“To optimize your mitochondrial function through diet, you need to eat so that your body is able to burn fat as its primary fuel rather than sugars. Ketogenic diets are very effective for this, as is fasting”
“When your body is able to burn fat for fuel, your liver creates ketones that burn more efficiently than carbs, thus creating far less reactive oxygen species and secondary free radicals that can damage your cellular and mitochondrial cell membranes, proteins and DNA”
Would be great if they could solve a lot of the aging problems but I believe in God's Word in the Bible and it indicates things will get worse instead of better for the lot of those who inhabit the Earth....

8 hour diet? You don’t eat while sleeping?
The youtube video is named
“Insulin Resistance Diet What To Eat & Why”
These guys are type 1 and both are doctors. Do your research, I have no experience with this approach and outside of this video have not heard of this approach with Type 1.
I do have a type 2 uncle who has effective cured his diabetes for 50 years. He was diagnosed at 40. He walks daily. And the mainstay of his diet, is he has a large plate of raw vegetables everyday for lunch with half a sandwich that has some meat on it.
He still checks his blood sugar daily.
I'm not talking specifically about the Keto Diet. I'm speaking more generally about the science regarding proper nutrition.
It's become quite clear that the science has been misunderstood for a long time, and that bad nutrition advice is primarily responsible for the modern plagues of obesity, diabetes, and other "diseases of civilization". Understanding proper nutrition would go a long way towards eliminating those things. It isn't just about a diet for losing some pounds.
Eliminating refined grains and sugar is essential to a healthy diet. We need to drastically cut carb consumption.
"What they dont say up front is that it will make you feel like you have a cold..."
Actually this is widely discussed among people who pay attention to the Keto diet. It's also explained that it's a temporary adjustment effect.
Eating a healthy diet should be a permanent thing, not a temporary plan to drop some weight. Eat the right things and the weight will take care of itself in the long run. So will other diseases. You can't do it for a month then move on.
