If true, I can see how the way he was treated could push him over the edge. Or, alternatively, how the DS could use him as a patsy in a shooting because he fits a profile that makes it plausible.

I firmly believe that just because we’ve heard a theory that makes sense, that doesn’t mean we should stop looking or stop brainstorming. The additional ideas might fit somewhere else or they might sharpen the images that we already have...

The problem is that the puzzle pieces that don’t yet fit can overwhelm. Successful puzzle solvers frequently organize their unused pieces by various criteria that let them know when the time is right to examine them more closely. Pure random pieces laying out in equal importance more often just confuse the issues.
