Utah Sen. Mike Lee, who is on Donald Trump's lengthy short list for Supreme Court nominees, revealed Wednesday that he voted for independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin.
"It was a protest vote," he told an audience at the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute in Salt Lake City, acknowledging he didn't know McMullin well, or much about him.
"I had signaled in the past concerns that I had with my party's nominee. I've made no secret about that and I don't feel any desire to rehearse those now.… I saw in Evan McMullin an opportunity to register a protest vote."
Lee previously has said he would not vote for Trump, but until Wednesday declined to say who would get his vote.
McMullin finished third in Utah, behind Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

If we're going down this path, I should point out that the only reason that Manafort was added to the Trump campaign was to fight this. If Cruz/Lee hadn't begun making waves with the delegates, Trump probably would have brought someone else in after Lewandowski.

I agree. However, he has not ONCE voted against Trump. So he fell in line when needed.

Since I was born and raised in Utah, left for some years, and then came back, Utahans are not any smarter than they were back then, they are just plain STUPID!!!
This past week they voted RAT ROMNEY, liar, carpetbagger, anti-Trumper, idiot and I could go on but the point being, don’t count on many of Utahans that haven’t been out of Salt Lake City or St. George to vote any different than what the Church wants you to vote...
I am not a Mormon, and I have left Utah for a number of years and been around the Nation and know how stupid some people are in this State...
I have also talked to people who have traveled here and visited our beautiful National Parks, as they say, ‘to bad some of the Mormons can’t be as beautiful as the State is’ and there lies the problem of having to count on Utah to do anything but be stupid!!!
Just advocating for the art of the possible. I don't know anything about the others on the list, but I guarantee the fangs will be out, manufacturing hairs on coke cans, you name it, and Flakey would love to torpedo Trump in his last year. Hard to do that with a fellow Mormon. Then the next time will be for all the marbles, after RBG assumes room temperature, but by then hopefully we'll have more Senate seats and won't have to worry as much about Flakey and his ilk.

Anyone who does a “protest vote” is not mature enough to be a Supreme Justice

One person close to Trump said the president will be reminded that Lee was one of a very small cluster of Republican senators who never endorsed Trump for president and in October 2016 called for him to step down.
