A Bahama Breeze Island Grille in Cleveland faces claims of racial profiling after police were called during a gathering of African-American women at the Caribbean-themed eatery owned by Darden Restaurants.
Chante Spencer, among some 40 members of Delta Sigma Theta at the restaurant, told Cleveland.com the problems started when one woman frustrated with waiting for her bill for 25 minutes said she was going to leave. A restaurant employee called police even as the woman waited and paid her tab because the manager wanted officers to be there to ensure other members of the gathering covered their bills, Spencer told the local media outlet on Wednesday.
The sorority gathering included a doctor, a judge, educators and other professionals who became upset because they believed the manager targeted them because of their skin color, Spencer said of the incident Tuesday night. "Police were standing there to make sure everyone paid, which we felt was racial profiling," she told Cleveland.com, saying she was speaking as a patron not on behalf of the sorority.
The police report states that all bills were paid and that a member of the group told police when they arrived that she would make sure the tabs were covered, according to Cleveland.com. Police did not make any arrests but remained at the restaurant about one hour.

At many restaurants, large parties have an automatic 18% gratuity added.
I wonder if the patrons were trying to duck out of that.
Why the auto-tip?
Because servers are taxed based on the bill.
Not starting a tipping debate here, it's just the way the tax laws work.
I have heard that some municipalities now have codes that forbid a mandatory service charge.
Darden owns Bahama Breeze but should look at closing this location.

was this in Beachwood Ohio? I could tell ya stories of the ‘old days”...... This wouldn’t have happened.
Black Americans, want a free meal? Go into a restaurant and make a scene, meal and rewards coming your way.
I think we are going to see a lot of these incidents: black activists show up, figure out how to create a scene and generate outrage, and demand a payoff (or demand the establishment conduct “sensitivity training”, and we later find out that the training providers are paying off activists to create incidents)

how did this large group think the restaurant, which isn’t very big, was going to be able to accommodate them in a timely fashion?...they can’t...which is why large groups arrange beforehand to be seated....
I’ll get by with Cracker Barrel and Golden Coral...
Yep. My son said his black co workers pitched a fit when black diners seated in their section.
Son said when he had a large minority group he just brought every condiment to the table in advance. Left pitchers of tea and water and let them serve themselves cause he wasn’t getting a tip and not gonna let them run him to death with requests.

The customers of color there are a pleasure and know how such a place functions. We go there maybe 4 times a year. That's all we can afford. If we have a business purpose it's our preferred place.
Why is that a good thing? More often than not, they forget stuff. Does using a pencil and paper run n the experience?
