Jeanine Pepler, the publicist who represented novelists Jay McInerney and Candace Bushnell, hanged herself Sunday night in her home in Sag Harbor, LI, taking her life the same way Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain did earlier this month. Sources say she was 50.

I’m not sure how much truth is involved in the conspiracy. These days it’s really hard to filter out fact from fiction, but he does make you think with those questions he asks. Before these suicides started being reported as such, I’d never ever heard of suicide by door-knob.
One thing I do know is that there are a lot of people out there on anti-depression meds and a general feeling of hopelessness abounds for a good portion of our world unfortunately.
I could see maybe a rope in that scenario, but I thought they (Pepler, Spade, Bourdain) hanged themselves with a red scarf, or in the case of Robin Williams, a red tie?
It’s called “copycat suicide” and is a real phenomenon.
You see it alot when school kids kill themselves and then there’s a lot of suicide threats reported among their classmates.
But these are adults. Really, really sad.
But I’m also not surprised.
It is...
My thought is that the culture must utterly stink that people feel so strongly about getting out via this particular solution. The ridicule of pretty much everyone else must make it feel like an impossibility to go back to one’s roots while at the same time, the culture stinks.
“If she is a leftist, I applaud her decision.
If she is on the right, I mourn her loss.”
I wish I could be as succinct with a comment as you.
You have mastered the art of saying more, but using less words in the process. You know, really being too wordy is the sign of a cluttered mind. Well, maybe not cluttered per se, but more distracted, or unfocused. It really is that mark of a great mind to be able to use a short deft phrase to make that salient point without getting to lost in your words. It almost reminds me of using a rapier to stab the heart of the enemy. Sure, I mean a giant claymore can hack away at the enemy, almost like chopping down a field of saplings. And a mameluke sword was a terror in it’s day too. And the Roman gladius had its strengths. And what discussion of swords is complete without bringing us samurai swords?
But yeah.. that rapier is just fast and has nothing there that it doesn’t need. I sure wouldn’t want to face anyone coming at me with a rapier. I mean in real combat, not in that sport where they dress up like a beekeeper with a metal facemask.
Anyway, like I was saying.... uhm... like I was saying...
It’ll come back to me. Just a second, now what were we talking about again? I know I had a point here...
A fellow human and her family and friends.
very very very very sad.
I had a friend commit suicide years ago. I still think of him and his struggles. (He struggled with homosexuality.)
Don’t give up on life, folks.
I edit ruthlessly.
“It’s probably how Robin Williams died.”
I wonder if that’s true. Williams struggled with depression. A lot of people assume celebrities are very happy because we always see them smiling. But often this is acting.
But if you are correct, it would be quite ironic. Williams made a film about this exact subject—World’s Greatest Dad.
People are looking for the ultimate piece of ass where they never stop cumming. Can’t wait for the pill or invention. As for hanging herself women won’t shoot themselves, especially in the head. They’re uptight about their looks. Blacks don’t jump off bridges because they can’t swim. Not that it matters.
Not really understanding the doorknob hanging and how it works. Tie the rope to one doorknob, throw it over the door, go around the door, and what? A noose that tightens? Are you standing up or on the floor? Why couldnt you just get up when you cant breathe? Or open the door (assuming you had slammed it upon deciding to go). Im not much into physics.
Also. The auto erotic thing. Sam thing, why couldnt you save yourself? And have women EVER been into this? How good could it even be?
RIP to this woman and prayers for her loved ones.
“I’m guessing from his lifestyle (and love of life and tacky ways) - that this was an auto-erotic act that went bad.”
That is possible. And it is also possible that a sex partner who participates in this could easily commit murder, or at least choose not to render aid when the other person is in a life-threatening state. There are also assassins who use sex to access their victims. Sounds like something out of a movie, but this stuff exists within the upper echelons of power.
She was tied to Alefantis and took her own life - she will not rest. But compared to what they’re facing, she took the “easy” way out.
The penny drops.
Tied to Alefantis. Do you have a link to a source?
And I would highly doubt that in the case of a woman over 50 it was auto erotic asphyxiation. “Suicide” hanging is an old technique used by the Yakuza, among others. Interestingly enough the DC Madam Deborah Palfrey, who threatened to open her appt books and expose the powerful, was found hanged in 2008. This was after telling others that if she died, it would not be a suicide. I don't buy most of these “suicides.”
You are assuming they really are suicides.
No, they are liberals.
Prayers for a troubled soul.
What happens is that enough pressure is put on the carotid arteries to cause semi-consciousness - that's the point auto-erotic fetishists are looking for - and when the body slumps the person is unconscious as the noose tightens to the point of lethality. They don't wake up choking because they can't. I was once acquainted with a seemingly normal guy who died that way and somebody had to tell the parents. Not a job I'd want.
About 20 years ago, in Japan, there was a rash of group (young adults) suicides via CO poisoning, typically in a van with a charcoal stove.
