(Reuters) - U.S. celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, host of CNN’s food-and-travel-focused “Parts Unknown” television series, killed himself in a French hotel room, CNN said on Friday, in the second high-profile suicide of a U.S. celebrity this week. He was 61.

Bourdain, whose career catapulted him from cooking at New York’s top restaurants to dining in Vietnam with President Barack Obama, was found dead in a hotel room in Strasbourg, France, where he had been working on an upcoming episode of his program, CNN said in a statement.

His death comes three days after American designer Kate Spade, who built a fashion empire on her signature handbags, was found dead in her New York apartment of suicide on Tuesday.

People who are so much in the public arena and who have such notoriety need to be especially careful of what comes out of their mouths.

It’s ALWAYS good to practice discretion but for them it is even more important.

If they expect the attention and esteem of the general public-then they ought to be as articulate and discerning as possible.

Unfortunately, MOST of these people have so little intellect, breeding or personal integrity that they abuse their notoriety and routinely take cheap shots at others in public life. I say ‘intellect’ because it’s totally OK to slam others if you do it with the kind of urbane satire and wit which intelligent people command. THEN-without being crass, insulting and vulgar, you can make your point.

However, THESE loudmouth Liberal goons are so low and common that it’s impossible to have any respect for them. Once they indiscriminately insult or mock others in public life, and by extension insult and mock other Americans who think differently ... then I just tune them out ... and I mean OUT, forever.

I am not letting any of them take those cheap shots at me and get away with it.

I thought the search function was to keep from posting the SAME article, not a DIFFERENT article about the same event.

Sometimes a different article gives a different perspective.

All 4 are from different sources, so the titles would all be different, making a search return no results.

Never liked the guy. Tried watching his show early on, and found him arrogant and condescending. I hope his demons are at rest now.

"Suicide doesn’t end the pain, it passes it on to your loved ones."

Amen. It's a selfish act that leaves friends and loved ones feeling guilty the rest of their lives, wondering if there was something they could have done to prevent it.

Sometimes a high profile suicide like Kate Spade, empowers others to follow. I read that Ms Spade was obsessed with Robin Williams’ suicide. I cannot imagine the pain that anyone suffers, that would bring them to the pain of suicide. But as someone else said upthread, it just passes the pain onto those left behind. I tried watching Bourdain a while back, but could not stomach his caustic approach. Prayers for his loved ones.

There have been isolated reports about Bourdain that “failure to conduct FreeRepublic searches prior to posting” is why he committed suicide.
He was allegedly *that* frustrated by how frequently the same stories are repeatedly posted here. The struggle is real.

he was an arrogant leftist with a history of drug use, I believe heroin, and I enjoyed his shows up until he decided he needed to let us all know how much he hated regular, law abiding, God fearing Americans, in so many little digs.

I mean, WHY couldn't we just eat like the third world countries?...why do we insist on clean kitchens and restaurants and food that passes inspection?...we Americans are so blase and ordinary./sarcasm/

Fifth, but who’s counting?

People do title searches (or claim to), but it seems they copy in the entire title instead of just searching for one or two words that are likely to be in any title about a particular thing. In this instance, searching titles for only the word “Bourdain” brings up all of the articles whose titles contain that.

Exactly! If people simply did a search on “Bourdain” they would see an existing thread into which they could contribute comments or another link.
