The vehicle wasn’t equipped with any weapons, but Yabut had his personal weapon with him without any ammunition, according to the Guard.
A Twitter account believed to be Yabut’s showed video of what appeared to be Yabut driving the APC.
He also posted several bizarre messages, including one on June 4 that read: “wow i think i just discovered a large illegal spy operation in the us government”.
Yabut – a first lieutenant assigned as company commander of the 276th Engineer Battalion – has more than 11 years of service, officials told the Associated Press. He deployed to Afghanistan from 2008 to 2009 with the Illinois National Guard.
Williams said the Guard has started an internal investigation and “will determine appropriate actions once the investigation is complete.”

I’m no expert, but I would think 11 years of service would most people beyond O-2.
Is it unusual for a Guard officer to have 11 years and still be a 1st LT?

They said he had his "personal weapon" but the video posted on twitter shows a pistol with the mag inserted and the pistol had a military issue lanyard ring, and the un it the m577 came from was on maneuvers so the gun is probably his "assigned weapon". Is that an issue Baretta from the armory?

When stationed in Berlin a Soviet soldier stole a BMP and came across the border into West Berlin. Sucker drove it right down the Kudamm. Sort of equivalent to driving it down Park Ave in NYC.
If I remember correctly he drove it off a bridge trying to go into Potsdam and died.
After running over a lot of stuff, he tried to evade the cops by crossing the highway divider at a wrong angle, and got stuck on top.
The cops used bolt cutters on a hatch, and ...ended up shooting the guy dead.
